I think you will see Heidfeld in that second seat at Mercedes for 2011. Michael may get closer to Rosberg but reading what Brawn had to say about Michael it was pretty obvious that he is just past it.

That said he isn't going to walk away from the race seat till the end of the season regardless of how bad he may do and he might still win a race this season but the championship and the hope of beating Rosberg are looking less likely per race.

Mercedes GP Team Principal Ross Brawn has clearly admitted that the seven time champion is having difficulty with his race pace compared to Rosberg, and that while he was improving since the first race he has suffered a downfall in China.

"His pace is a problem. Michael's problems are difficult to understand. It's not the difficult corners, but the technically simple ones," Brawn shared with Germany's 'Auto Motor und Sport'.

"Until now he has been getting closer and closer to Nico, so what happened in China was totally against the trend."

Rosberg finished ahead of Schumacher on all three days of the Chinese GP, while also landing his second podium finish of the season.

Schumi has a 3yr contract but in reality who knows what that truelly means or what we will see. If things do not pan out for him race wise it is still a great enjoyment for some of us to have him on the track for a last tour.

I would enjoy having Nick back so all the best for his return.

To answer the specific point, I'd love to see Heidfeld back in F1 (if for nothing more that his dancing! :D ). He is such a consistently good driver it's a pity that he didn't have a race seat for this season. I would like to see Schumacher be given a full season under his belt and at least the first few races of next (i.e. after he's had the chance to have a hand in developing next year's car so that it might suit his driving style!). I have a feeling that even if he doesn't do fantastically this year, he'll still improve on his performances so far, and would likely be more of a force in 2011.

Another point that was brought up earlier in the thread was 'why don't they give Heidfeld a couple of the practice sessions to run in?'. Whilst I can't see that happening as Schumacher will want to get as much running as possible, I would like to see most of the teams using this initiative as Force India are doing at the moment with Paul Di Resta! It would certainly make the practice sessions more interesting in my opinion, and would also give the third / test drivers something to do!!

I hope that Nick gets another chance in F1. He definitely deserves it as he's a very talented and experienced driver.

Yes he is! But, he didn't managed for quite a lot of races to drive the BMW quickly enough around the track. And that is a pitty. (Did I said this before....?). And it may be something that is happening to Schumi as well. But F1 goes by so quickly, that if you don't show your potential on a "daily" basis, there's someone else who can....
As most or all of the drivers and other people too say, if drviers gets into F1 he/she has to be good. There's no way around it. I'm no Heidfeld fan, but anyway thumbs up and the best for him!

I totally agree with that!
