Pitlanes- On entry i believe its ok to overtake until you're actually in the lane (though turfing your team mate off track into a puddle in an effort to nick his pitstop is not nice....kindov expected behaviour though)

Massa said an error on his part had led to the overtaking manoeuvre by Alonso.

"As for the passing move Fernando made, I ended up on a puddle of water coming out of the hairpin and slightly lost control of the car: he managed to get inside me, passing me going into the pit lane," he said. "I lost some places because of it, as I had to wait for his stop to be finished."

mm, maybe, but that was after a team debrief. Apparanty Smedley had smoke comming out of his ears!!

as for the hamilton v button row, id well prefer an emotional driver who gets hot headed but drives flat out all the time, than a boring, one dimensional driver like button, Hammy has his mistakes occasionlly, but his flat out pace and overtaking MORE than makes up for it

is there another repeat/highlights on british tv or have i missed them all?

Ok amazing race, great result, Alonso 5 stops, 4th place quality.

And I aint saying this coz I hate Hammy.
But
1. How can you cut accross grasss into the pits???
How dangerous/illegal is that.
It is pretty much like going from the middle or thrid lane of a motorway and deciding to cut across the other 1 (or 2) and go on the slip road??? Not on.

2. And I agree Alonso should have got penalised aswell, overtaking into the pit lane. He cut the corner pretty much. Cut the white lines. Surely not allowed?? coming out pits, obv already been reprimanded, fine.

3. In the press conference. "Lewis how d'you feel about being under investigation for coming out of the pits with Vettel?". Answer: "I don't understand, what are you on about, I don't know". Pure arrogance and just ignorance.


But amazing race loved it.

It is only not allowed on the exit of the pit lane.
So no problem cutting white line entering the pits. Everything legal here!

If they wouldn't be there, the drivers wouldn't know how to get into the pits
It's like to ask, why there are white lines on the entire race track... There is a rule: cars have to stay within the race track (and this means to stay within the white lines).
So, if a car would cross 100% the white lines entering the pits, it would take a "short cut", and then that would be illegal (the car wouldn't be on the track, and would take an advantage). But no problem with corssing the line!
On the exit of the pit it was ruled illegal to cross the line (some years ago), because of security reasons. So the slow car exiting the pit wouln't "crash" into the fast car coming from the long straight.

I wonder what anyone critisizing Hamilton' exit alongside Vettel thought of Kimi's Exit alongside Kubica in Canda just before Hamilton ran into the back of him at the red light. I'm not excusing Hamilton for that incident but a lot of people disagreed with me that Kimi had done anything wrong.

I thought Hamiltons move across to get into the pits was a bit dodgy today but it looks like there wasn't actually anything wrong with it.

Alonso got better traction out of the hairpin and got on the wrong side of Massa and stopping him from making the turn onto the main straight, nothing deliberate but I'm sure Ferrari will be keen for that not to happen again.

Was good to see Schumacher and Hamilton even though it was a bit one sided, hopefully Schumacher can get the car working and we'll get some closer racing between those two.

Was that the first sign of hot headedness from Vettel in the pitlane?

No not arrogance. At that point he hadnt heard about any investigation as was evident when he began to describe the wrong pistop.

It was a bit unnecessary and could have caused an accident but they are racing and having to think on their feet. I agree it so much better without silly penalties all the time.

Schumacher's done it (which led to button crashing out) , Hamilton's done it (Webber/Vettel), and many others too. It's nothing new and I can't recall seeing any penalties for it before.

Few observations...

First of all, extremely happy to see my team do a 1-2!

Lewis showed he is definitely one of the best Formula 1 drivers, ever. He does it consistently. I'm amazed at the usual Lewis bashing, although I should be used to that. He is simply an amazing, thrilling driver, and definitely the master at overtaking--no one has the balls to pull the moves he does. Nevertheless, he kept his cool and didn't try anything stupid with Button. Props for that. A bit stupid on the pit area thing, though...Come on man, just let him pass.

Button, so nice of you to show 'em the meaning of being a smooth driver. Not the most exciting visually, I know, but man, he outdid himself again.

Petrov! Nice going there, apparently he does bring more than just money to Renault. Excellent job.

I was hoping a 3rd place for Kubica, but I'm glad Nico got it anyway. He's better than Schumacher, period. Take that, Nico-dissers (shakes fist in the air)...

Alonso, you dolt, if you hadn't jumped the lights you might have won. As always, though, he's the rodeo cowboy of F1...I really like how he wrings out the maximum performance out of *any* car he's given, and no matter what conditions set into the race. Well played, señor.

Algersuari, another señor with brass balls. This kid can be something, I tell you. I think he will be a future champion.

At the finish, track-side marshals frequently wave all of the different flags.

But the fact that it was only waved at Hamilton though and not Button....
