So ignoring the top four, what other drivers deserve a special mention?

I think Rosberg and Kovalainen have come on this year, probably Kubica and Heidfeld too.

I think its been a very good year for new drivers and should make for some interesting team moves perhaps off season.

Webber continues to impress with Red Bull, as did those you've highlighted. I'd also say Jenson Button this year won me over as he put in some good performances with that terrible honda.

All four that you mention Stephen have been superb this year... but out of the four, Have to give it to Rosberg, completely destroyed Wurz this year!

And yeah Button has proved to be quite the driver this year, hopefully he finally gets the car! James Allen won't be able to handle 2 British winners!

i'll say Kubica & Heldfield....nearrly always in the points

For me it's Nick Neidfeld, a cut above the midfield runners

Lower down the order Button and Webber have both impressed

Definitely Rosberg and Kovalainen, who have both outshone vastly more experienced teammates. The two BMW guys have done well but have been driving a superior car to their rivals. They have made a few mistakes (eg Nurburgring start) where they've cost themselves. I've also been impressed with Sutil and Davidson this year.

The future of F1 is looking exciting. Imagine in 5 years or so:

Hamilton
Kovalainen
Kubica
Rosberg
Sutil
Glock
Piquet Jnr

If they are all driving competitive cars, what a title fight that could be! I'm sure there's a few drivers I've missed off that list as well.

Don't forget Vettel as well, he has had an up and down season since joining STR, but his drive in Shanghai was amazing!

Kovalainen and Vettel have impressed me alot but the two biggest surprise's of the year, for me personaly, were Kubica and Hamilton.
