Well, I've been reading the article about this on the front page (http://www.forumula1.net/2010/f1/f1-news/hamilton-still-the-pick-of-mclaren-drivers-despite-buttons-win/) and was just wondering what you guys thought?

I still believe Hamilton to be the number one at McLaren - I think he's the better driver and also, the fact that he get away with publicly criticising his team shows that he is held in high regard by everyone there. You could argue though that Button is now the top dog; he came in for different tyres without even communicating with his team, and yet wasn't berated for it, rather congratulated. But, Hamilton made up a gap of around 30 seconds on the one stoppers at the front of the field, meaning he probably would have earned himself a podium had he not stopped twice.

There's arguments for both drivers. Just wondering what you though?

Accept my view (for the sake of me making my argument) that Alonso, Hamilton & Button are the three best drivers.

Hamilton is, arguably the second best driver in F1 behind Alonso. Button would be the third. On his day, Button is better than the pair of them - peerless even. But his operating window is narrower, so Hamilton and Alonso are generally better bets to get the best out of themselves and the car, though Button can find even more given the right circumstances. So it's equally advantageous to the team to have Jenson as it is to have Lewis. Alonso/Button or Lewis/Button pairings are essentially optimal driver strategies. Lewis/Alonso didn't work because they don't compliment eachother.

First of all, why would the team (or the fans) need an appointed #1?

As for the team berating Jenson's decision to switch tires, i would think it was more of a communication issue, rather than the team having no idea Jenson was pitting. The drivers are there to be an asset, ie help make decisions and drive fast. So far, Lewis is still LEARNING. Doesn't matter how good he is, he is still learning. Which is not bad... nor it mean he is #2. I think it will take more races to even think about #1 or #2. I believe if one drivers opens a large pt gap to the other, it would make sense to base the teams strategies around it... but until then why bother?

Something that wouldnt help his case is the issue he made for the tire change issue... but i dont think its the end of the world. If he continues with this sort of behaviour i think it would hurt the relationship, but so far... nothing irreparable.

Also, Lewis was able to close the gap because Kubica was holding the Ferraris back (Renault is slower than the Mclaren and Ferrari). Very good job by Kubica btw. And because they were all on 1 stop they had to conserve tires, and frankly didnt have much tires left to push at the end. Hence Lewis and Webber easily catching them.

I think there is a bit more of a sensible decision at Ferrari... CLEARLY Fernando is faster than Massa. And i'm thinking unless Massa puts on the ussual good show in 'his' tracks, Ferrari might make the decision sooner than Mclaren. But again, so far, why bother?

I'd say that Hamilton is the 1st driver, but I'd rather treat them like equals so neither person's ego gets bigger than the others.

BUT, after Australia, the team's mentality might have shifted a little bit though...

Jenson might beat Lewis in the driver standings at the end of the year. (My gut feeling)
