Indeed, York is one of the nicest cities in the UK, and I'm not saying that just because I'm the native.

I will look into nice places to watch the race, have drink, and already have a place in mind for us all to eat - if nobody has any objections to Italian food.

Sounds great to me. I know the location won't be perfect for everyone but, like Juliet said, if we keep changing it then we're never going to arrange anything. York's a lovely city, fairly central and has great transport links. Plus we have a resident expert who knows his way round and has agreed to look into the details.

its too far for one day and will probs work out 60-70 just on petrol and train is more expensive and more hassle, thats just the way it is, no worries
