F1: Ecclestone Again Proposes ‘Short-Cuts’
"Bernie Ecclestone has a solution to boring races...

Bernie Ecclestone is again calling for the installation of 'shortcuts' on the circuits that could be used by drivers a certain amount of times per race.

"I'm pushing, but sometimes people don't understand these things too well, they don't see the advantages,” said Ecclestone. "It would be good for TV, and you'd get a lot of excitement out of it.”

Can banana peels and turtle shells be far behind?

I heard Bernie was seen jumping in a green warp pipe earlier, so that explains a lot.

Oh god, not the bloody shortcut thing again. If that thing goes through the sport will lose a lot of integrity in my eyes. Does any other highly regarded racing series need such a ridiculous system? Nope, not to my knowledge.

Mainly because it's dangerous to have cars off the track, coming in from the sides at different speeds.

It works just fine for pit exits though.

Pit exits come out onto the end of a straight, with cars going slower than the race speed and the car off the track must yield to those on the track. Shortcuts would be completely different, the cars off track would be at speed, coming in from angles - coming in at angles at the end of TURNS no less - and would not yield to the cars ontrack, since that would defeat the purpose. It's incomparable to the pits.

Nah, they could have the same rules (white line and all) as with pit exits, so the driver on the regular track would have to yield to the one coming from the short cut.

I would be highly dubious that there's enough room for that without compromising any racing lines.

I thought the aim was to be fastest around a certain track. throw in short cuts and you defeat the whole purpose of the sport! Besides when there is more than one road then its no longer a race track! Its a car park.
