Would this be fat enough for ya?

That looks like something you'd expect Mr Soft out of those ancient Trebor Soft Mints adverts to be driving. :P

For me more overtaking is a solution to the problem, rather than a solution in itself.

The problem is the tedium and the feeling that the race is a foregone conclusion, its no good watching faster drivers in faster cars stuck behind someone - ie Leis behind Rosberg, or Webber.

Alonso looked a lot quicker then Vettle, before he got into the dirty air and had to drop back again. Then Alonso got lucky and was able to get past.

I thought SV controlled the race quite nicely and reacted to any advances by FA with his own faster lap.

He generally did very well,

I'm talking about the time just before his exhaust broke, when Alonso got right up to him and could be seen moving around to stay out of Vettle's "wake". Rob also told Massa to stay back from Alonso. What would've be interesting is whether Alonso would've eventually got past Vettle or not.

i dont think he would have, bar a mistake, he even took a fair while even with the exhaust ..because he had to preserve the engine

i will make proper decisions after Oz but to me, i cant see how these rules improve things one bit

i dont want artificial overtakes, just that they are possible if the behind car is fat enough..

exactly, I think sorting the dirty air situation would go a long way to ensuring faster cars can actaully overtake, what we kind of have here is cars being "artificially" slowed down when moving close enough to overtake

For those blaming Bahrain for being boring and not the rules, look at it this way, you had FOUR champions on the grid and we saw zero action, I think the rules may have to do something with that

yep, the route of the problem lies here, every thing else, ie heavier, no kers etc, just makes it worse or harder to rectify

It was boring last year too and we had 3 World Champions on the grid. I'm not saying the new rules didn't contribute but the track is hardly a great one.

For anyone who wants to complain about a lack of overtaking, there were 19 passes yesterday (not including things like the spins that Sutil, Kubica and Hulkenberg had, or passing Timo Glock as he toured to the pits) compared with the 15 of last year. Overtaking is not the most important factor, clearly. If it was, then it would only be logical that people found the British grand prix less exciting than the Bahrain grand prix. ;)

Four or Five of those overtakes were Hulkenberg making his way past the Loti, Virgins and Bruno Senna.

That was overtaking though right or should I/we be led to believe that overtaking is only IMPORTANT when the leaders are involved?

It's more important when the leaders are involved, or to put it another way, when it matters.

Also, an overtake only matters at all if we see it. So it primarily has to be for Points. That's why quoting the total number of overtakes in a race is irrelevant, since a race with fast cars behind the newbies is going to throw up several overtakes which are neither very important nor seen.

You have your outlook and I have mine.

It's sad really. In a season that promises to be the most competitive ever, with 4 excellent teams, each with two great drivers, we are cursed with even more ridiculous rules, to be coupled with the idiotic testing freeze/limit.

The only up side so far is the points system, which is a huge improvement over past years. Now, winning means something, and top 5 means a lot, not just a point diff..

Aren't you concerned about the lack of stragety there was though?
