Now I thought Proton on the side of a Lotus was bad.... We have Lada being title sponsors of Renault now...
Probably the manufacturer least likely to be associated with Formula One, Russian car maker Lada, has announced it will be sponsoring the Renault F1 team for 2010.

The announcement, made by Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin, is linked to the signing of Vitaly Petrov as the country's first F1 driver. Putin said Renault's signing of Petrov, is a "great symbol of cooperation" between the French marque and Russia.

"We will sponsor this activity [the F1 team] as a first step, and do not rule out later increasing our financial participation in the project," the prime minister told news agency EFE.

In 2008 Renault bought a 25% stake in Lada's parent company Avtovaz for US$1 billion, and it is reported that Renault's chief executive Carlos Ghosn may now look to increase the marque's involvement.

Although the car will carry Lada branding for 2010, there are no plans to change the team name.

I don't see anything wrong with it. On the contrary, seems like Renault is working on its long term F1 involvent, which is... good.

Sure... lots of jokes about Lada, and probably lots of Lada's compared to modern cars hehe...... but whatever. There hasn't been one of a Fiat 500 next to an F1?

Now I hope they are able to give Kubica a decent car. Points once in a while will be good.

Wow. Lada have made some of the worst cars in history... not the thing you really associate with the pinnacle of motorsport.

Two things came too my mind when I read this. Firstly, Kimi's return.lots of vodka.Secondly,it is one thing if Flavio or Pat tells you too crash because you might loose your drive. It is totally different thing when it is a guy in a black suit and military haircut.Just joking.

Seriously though,I think this is a good move by Renault. They need the money to help with the running cost of a F1 team and will probably help with some commercial success in the Russian market. We need a full grid with teams that will still be there at the end of the year.It just shows you that there is still some money around for sponsorship (CNN-Lotus),makes one think that especially USF1 did not do their work properly when it came to securing funds. As long as we do not have cars sponsored by woman toiletry products.......
