How can you race in F1 without an official entry?

Therein lies the problem

a sorry state of affairs indeed. neither the FIA or USF1 come out of this in a good light, in fact its nothing short of a shambles

Even if they do make the grid, then their car wouldn't have completed a single km on European soil until the Spanish GP

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
SPEEDtv.com has learned that the struggling start-up USF1 Formula 1 team has formally petitioned the FIA to defer the team's entry into the sport until 2011.

Team principals Ken Anderson and Chad Hurley have offered to post a “substantial, seven-figure” surety bond as proof of their intentions to race next year.

The request for a deferment follows a breakdown in merger discussions between USF1 and the Spanish Campos Meta team. The Serbian-based Stefan GP team also had made overtures about working with USF1, but those talks also failed to yield anything substantive.

It now appears that neither USF1 nor Campos will be on the grid for the season-opener at Bahrain.

Contrary to media speculation elsewhere, Hurley is still very much involved in the USF1 effort.

No chance! Get rid of the useless idiots we call USF1, get rid!

Apparently they have offered the FIA 7 figures to keep their spot open.

No chance... FIA love money.. but Stefan is right there...

It's like picking between two dogs at a dogs home.. one that is almost perfect.. but just getting a bit old (StefanGP) & another that has 3 broken legs, pisses all over the place & smells of crap. (USF1)

Look can we just get Stefan GP the bloody spot already, we all know the usf1 idiots wont have the car ready at all. If they started the 2011 car now I reckon they'd only just finish it in time for 2011 IMO. Campos may miss the first few races but not the whole year like usf1

As much as I want USF1 on the grid in 2011, to not give the available spot on the grid to Stefan this year would be a crime. USF1 have said they are out for this year, so why waste the space? Tell Stefan they have it for this year and will be first in line for the next opening in 2011. Teams seem to be quitting every year, is it too much of a stretch to think that 2010 will be any different? Stefan have shown they are ready, they deserve the spot IMO.

Has anyone considered the possibility of this whole thing going back to them not using a Cosworth engine? Would be a shame.

Oh yeah, and where was this "7 figures" when you couldn't pay your employees? Dammit I will support the team until it kills me, but these guys are making all the wrong moves right now, just think of what F1 will turn into when its a bidding war for places on the grid every season.
