Perhaps Mercedes are making a power play? I think they want the team to become a complete and total factory effort with their own management. We may be witnessing a complete takeover in the works and I do not like what I'm hearing/reading or percieveing from this news.

Not to say that I will miss Nick Fry, but the dynamic that made Brawn what is was last year may not be the same this year with Mercedes. Brawn had the feeling of a small smart independent group, that made it work under a small budget. Mercedes, although very interesting and cool, seems to have a corporate, bureaucratic, numb feel to it. Maybe when they start racing I may feel differently..

Not worried about Ross - he'll leave when he says he wants to. He's still got a sizable equity in the team plus he's the genius of the team together with MS. Mercedes better find an extraordinaire replacement or their hopes for success might well be in danger.

This actually raises a point that i've been wondering about for a while - what is Norbert Haug's role in this new Merc team? I seem to remember he was head of motorsport when they were affiliated with McLaren, but i haven't heard anything further since this new team was formed...

Can't help but feel this is a bad move for Mercedes. I understand their desire to bring in their own people, but there is some truth in the old adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it...".

It was broke, remember the Henkel sponsorship screwup. Brought back memories of Qadbak.

Nick Fry was broken. Nick guided Honda into the 2007 nightmare (And by proxy the 2008 mess) because he was too chicken-hearted to stand up to Honda Corporate. And Nick's major responsibility in his time with Honda was to secure Sponsorship. He got none. Honda (Nee BAR) had a reputation in the plitlane for having a terrible sponsorship sales wing.
