Sorry guys, Im not very technical  and I cant find the autosport article righ now, I think it was last weks not this weeks. But here is the post I wrote after reading the article.

Any thoughts on the weight of the Ferrari engine? 12 to 15 kg heavier than the Renault, on average 5 kg heavier than the merc. Worst case scenarion(15kg heaver )is worth about 0.45s per lap, and all that penalty will now be carried at the beginning of the race. Is ferrari going to suffer at the starts?

I also remember reading that Ferrari were trying to run their engine leaner and it was causing a problem with something over-heating.

I remember seeing a list with the fuel consumption and HP ???

Yeah that one might have been me, got it off a tech forum but the info seems consistent with everything else i have heard (ie from more reputable sources). Let me find that one...

edit: this is something slightly different but it still paints the same picture:

figures for Abu Dhabi:

Mercedes FO108W: 3.17 KG/Lap
Ferarri 056: 3.58 KG/Lap
Renault RS27: 3.14 KG/Lap
Toyota RVX-09: 3.13 KG/Lap
BMW P86/9: 3.10 KG/Lap

Circuit Length: 5.554 Kilometers
Weather: Warm (25-30 Celcius roughly), dry and sunny (Start; Day/Night race)

Figures for Great Britian:

Mercedes FO108W: 2.85 KG/Lap
Ferarri 056: 3.06 KG/Lap
Renault RS27: 2.76 KG/Lap
Toyota RVX-09: 3.00 KG/Lap
BMW P86/9: 2.95 KG/Lap

Circuit Length: 5.141 Kilometers
Weather: Cold-ish (10-14 Celcius roughly), Dull and Dry

edit 2: here's that original info, just found it:

Mercedes FO108W = 155KG tank running optimal 760HP
Ferarri 056 = 165kg takn running at optimal 755HP
Renault RS27 = 140KG tank running at optimal 745HP
Toyota RVX-09 = 135KG tank running at optimal 738HP
BMW P86/9 = 158KG tank running at optimal 752HP

i can't be bothered to figure out if those two sets of data actually complement each other exactly, but it'll be the right ballpark.

The table provided a few weeks back also showed the Cosworth had the worst consumption. Now this will have been data from back when Cosworth started up development of the CA2010 and they still have until next month to work on the engine and make it more frugal and keeping it's 15HP advantage at the same time.

If they can get the consumption less than the Ferrari, Mercedes and the Toy-slow-ta engine that's due to be renamed "StefanGP" it would be a great achievement, somehow I don't think it'll be more frugal than the Renault.

Yeah i heard 770hp but it needs 180kg of fuel. Not sure if that's out of date though, given that the Cossie is now rev limited (it ran up to 20k rpm in 2006). I'm guessing they would have been allowed to retune it for this season but i can't find anything to confirm that...

Renault, which supplies Red Bull as well as its factory team, is believed to have the most fuel efficient engine, albeit one slightly down on power. A frugal engine will allow a team to run a lighter fuel load at the start of the race, a factor that will be worth a significant amount of lap time in the early stages of a grand prix. Fuel levels will no longer have a bearing on qualifying times, as the top ten won't have to run in Q3 with enough fuel to start the race. Therefore, the Renault powered cars may qualify lower down the grid but make significant gains during the opening laps.

That reminds me of the days when the Ferrari had their turbo and always had to run more fuel but the Ford Cosworths had no issues with running out. As for making passes in the early laps, we know how hard it is to overtake with the DDD and drivers too good at defending their position, but I'd like to be proved wrong in Bahrain in just over a month :yes::yes:
