I said to a degree - just preserve some decorum here, will you? What's the point of repeating one's feeling of disgust for a driver or a team or a team member again and again? It's boring, pointless and just silly.

But that is how it is in forums.

Make it sterile and there will be nothing worth debating about.

Go check out the SPEED TV forums (probably the biggest going) and see how they are lambasting McLaren/Ron Dennis/Hamilton and in particular the British.

People come here to share their opinions and more so with people who dont agree. If we can keep out opinions and [arguments] to a level where we are attacking the post and not the posters I don’t see any harm.

You have the off season coming up, and that kills more forums than anything. If you want to hold onto you guys (and girls) don’t try and make this the crazy world of political correctness gone bad.

I agree, racism is wrong, and that we should not look down upon someone because of their race, but their is no such race as the British or the Spanish or the Italians.

In summary, moderation yes - sterilization no.

As I suggested to Texasmr2, it is quite natural that feelings and tempers are at fever pitch as we draw towards the culminating contest of a very strange season. Opinions and loyalties are extremely polarised and are bound to boil over on occassion. Just a couple of more days and we will be at the autopsy stage, a few body parts will inevitably be thrown around, and then a period of relative calm.

... A moderator's heaven of unmitigated boredom.

Ronnie, I don't think you could in earnest accuse us moderators of sterilizing the forum. There are very few threads that got locked for the exact same reasons I mentioned above. A couple of posters got sin-binned - that's about it.

I have used racism and chauvinism for the phenomenon I'm talking about - I used racism more often lately because it's a more common term that most people have a certain understanding of. It is by no means meant as a defining term for the behavior I'm talking about and doesn't really pertain to race in this context (BTW: as a physical anthropologist I question the notion of 'race' vehemently for scientific reasons). So, the term chauvinism or even jingoism to an extent is probably the more accurate description.

I don't really care what other fora or forums do and how they handle things or don't. I've been with several and in general I noticed that allowing overt flaming with profanities and personal attacks usually leads to people getting fed up and abandonning the forum altogether, which in turn leads to a general demise of said forum.
I'd like to be able to log on this forum with anticipation of a good banter or a chat about F1 and other things and not get annoyed by rather moronic or incensing, i.e., insulting posts EVERY time.

I don't live in the UK or Spain and am not exposed to all the crap that the yellow press is stirring up over there - and I really don't think we need to reproduce or regurgitate EVERYTHING here, though I admit it's tempting and I'm not immune against it either. In particular, it would be nice to be a bit more classy in style than those unfortunate scribes!

BTW: I don't have a dog in the race since my boy is not in contention for the title.

I don't know texasmr2, for me to be your press secretary, wouldn't that make you president? Where would that leave me as the Forum Queen, eh? I think the Queen would be very happy and appreciative if you'd be the chainsaw-wielding Texasman who clears the shrub in the forum - a job reserved for presidents who pose on their ranch for a TV report before farting hotdogs and burping Budlight during some baseball game on the plasma TV :P
Sorry, I couldn't resist that opening - all in good humor

No mater how vehemently you disagree with the notion of race, all we can guide ourselves with are the principles and laws as defined by our society. If someone vehemently denied the definition of the crime of murder would it then be okay for that person to take someone’s life? In other words would it not be best to moderate with societies principles and not your own?

I agree that overt flaming and trolling should be avoided but not at the expense of a good debate. That is to say, it is good to debate (even strongly) with ones fellow F1 fans as long as the debate is the post and not the poster (although sometimes that is difficult). So in my opinion (please note I am only giving you my opinion) it should be fine for someone to post that he thinks Hamilton sucks but not to post that Hamilton sucks because he is black (well his mother was British so he is of mixed ‘race’.)

I have seen some odd thread locked here and some stranger ones left open (the Spanish persons obvious trolling with the picture of Hamiltons car on a crane and calling the British a nation of pirates comes to mind).

All I am saying is, please allow the site to remain lively and not to impose your own ideals on it, I like what I see so far, but your statement earlier worried me.

And don’t worry I am not Che Guevara and not looking for a revolution.

Oh and I don’t live in the UK either.

I threw that in just to illustrate how ridiculous a racial argument is. I don't deny that people use the term 'race' and that it is a sad sign of the times that it still has a bearing even though biologically it is anything but a clear notion. With people migrating and comingling more and more, this artificial separation will become a thing of the past - at least I hope...

Yes I was born and raised in Texas and was also born on the 4th of July so my conviction's, er head  , are quite large! ! One thing everyone can expect from me is the God's honest truth, my loyalty and my conviction that we are all in this together. I believe in harmony albeit rejoice in the difference's of opinion and conviction but after that we can all just go hangout, break bread and appreciate our newfound brother's and sister's in this crazy mixed-up world.

When I was in Russia and then in Amsterdam my best friend's were English or from other country's and traveling oversea's was one of if not the best decision I have ever made in my lifetime.

I tend to ramble on and for that I appologize and for going "off topic'.

I drove through Texas for a week one day... seemed like a week... on my way home to Sarasota from Colorado. It was the most God forsaken place I'd ever seen.

Same here and I agree. Did you notice that some of their highways are made of red tarmac? Weird...
