Someone please tell me that I'm not the only one that heard iPad and thought of a Star Trek PADD. Just me? Image

Nah, to be honest as soon as I see any product with a lower case i infront of it I think it is apple related.

Too much Trekkie for you I think. :P

Thing is, its abit too big to be really portable.
You can't really put it in your pocket.
But it is a quality technical device

As info emerges we find out its almost like a big iPhone.

The price point is $499 US. Not Bad at all!! considering its Apple, but the problem is:

No camera, so no skyping and what worse,
NO FLASH support!! something that big and I can't watch embeded videos on Hulu or the occasional adult entertainment offerings..

well with no flash support why not just got a cheap xp netbook which would be smaller, better res on the screen and easier to type on.

Iphones great but its great because its a tiny pocket sized device.

Both options would be rather neat for onboard tuning parameters for a stand-alone EMS :) . I like both for their portability but have no need for either at this time. Gaz does the XP Netbook have the items the Apple is missing??

yes its would be able to do everything your pc can do mate.

perhaps not as fast and with less storage (which is expandble) but its just a really small laptop.

they go for around $100 - $250

so its a heck of alot cheaper too.

Whats EMS all about anyway?

EMS = engine management system. Daym $100-$250 is awesome so in the future I might look into one for my next build/project car.

Thanks for the info,

Looking at the spec list; I am not terribly impressed with the iPad, my Nokia smart phone does all the things the iPad does with the exception of itunes/ipod, but it does have a music player that works just as well and it plays flash videos and have a fully fledged browser called skyfire. The only advantage I see to the iPad is the larger screen.

I doubt you could produce a powerpoint slideshow or a complex Excel spreadsheet with graphics and then present it to your audience. One of many things you could do with the iPad. There are 140,000 apps in the app store that were designed for the iPhone, but most of them are readily usable on the iPad as well. Soon, there will be a slew of new apps specifically designed for the iPad that take advantage of the bigger screen real estate and then over 1000 touch points of the screen.

It may not be able to do a powerpoint presentation (at least until an app becomes available) but my phone does have the ability to connect to any composite video input (with an additional adapter of course). the iPhone is a great practical device, the iPad not so much as many have said above, it will sell, that's for sure, Apple gadgets seem to be in demand right now because they are the cool thing to have but I will be putting my $500 elsewhere plus I have never been a fan of tablet computing.
