[Fact Man]

In an age where everything is fast, are we starting to witness the same trend in F1.

Good drivers who win 2-3 WDC but are soon replaced by new ones. The cycle goes on and on. FA won 2 WDC and if LH wins this year he might be able to snatch 1 or 2 more but there will be more talented drivers available and with cars getting closer in performance to each other over the years.

Of course, it'll be more interesting for all of us because it'll bring more competition to F1.

That would be great but those day's are gone .

Yes, then Hamilton will take over McLaren from Sir Ron. Sir Ron will buy the old Oswald Mosley mansion in Didsbury, Manchester specifically as a museum for his extensive collection of silverware and other memorabilia and live to the ripe old age of 110, at which point "Ron Dennis House" will be gifted to a grateful and adoring nation. Sir Ron will be buried in the south nave of Westminster Abbey and the anniversary of his death will be declared a national holiday.

The very method of determining champion is seriously flawed. It just counts points. So you have the most at the end? Who says that's the end? The point in time when you have the most points just happens to be the same time the last race was run. That's what we call luck. Someone else had the most at some other point in tthe season, and if there were more races, someone else might have had more than you later. Pretty meaningless. Certainly not a measure of talent.

Talent has alot to do with it but not as much as luck, you hit the nail on the head 'madbrad'!

I disagree, each year the teams/drivers attend a set number of races in which to amass the most points, who says where the end of the 100m sprint is, is the person in front just lucky to be there when he crosses the line?

he is.

You can place a distant 3rd every race, and you only did that well because of a great car, while the talented guys are splitting the wins and suffering retirements from car problems or from trying hard like a champion should, and you get the title.

Retirements from car problems can be reduced when a team is working well or if a driver retires due to error then it's driver error and it's the guy who's team can provide a reliable fast car and who makes the least errors that gets it. IMO luck plays a part in things like safety car situations and weather but even then it can be down to how and how quickly the team reacts.

So all of the driver's such as Prost and Senna were wrong when I heard then say "Ah luck is a very special and splendid thing"? I'm sure Prost WDC win over Mansell in Australia had nothing to do with luck .

Luck will shinedown on everyone sometime in their life and then and only then can it be truelly appreciated.

It's the same with any sport. You can have knock out competitions and leagues. Obviously there has to be end to any competitive endeavour otherwise the contestants would still be hobbling around when they eventually croaked. In sport, true talent is revealed over a period a time. A great football player may start his career with a lousy team but he will rise through the ranks as fast as his talents and performance allows... same with motor racing, etc. I don't see a problem.

Neither do I as talent is the true test and was what put them into their situation but I never count out being lucky.
