Without any drivers - particularly this late - they're going to get no driver input for the design of the car. They'll have to pray whoever they get to drive it will like the way their car handles - then double that.

Sounds like what happened to the Honda-Brawn car doesn't it? Look how that turned out.

It's absolutely nothing like that. The Honda-Brawn situation had Jenson, and Rubens was always in the wings. Plus, their uncertainty only came later on - US F1 has been suspect for more than half a year.

With the testing ban there is no driver input anyway, that won't happen until next month. It's a new game in 2010 because the refueling ban, so 2009 data becomes irrelevant in many aspects. Wind tunnels and cfd are the principle design tools now.

“Here we are, only a handful of weeks away from having our car run its first race,” he concluded. “In less than a year we've built a very capable shop, put together the smartest and most talented group of people I've ever had the privilege of working with, and designed what should be a fast, reliable, safe, drivable, and yes, beautiful car. This team means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but for me it's literally a dream come true. When those lights go out at the start of our first race, it will be both the end of a long road, and the start of a new one. I can't wait.”

I may be looking into this a bit too much but why does he keep saying "Our" first race and not "The" first race

True, but it only gives them an idea not actual data because simulators cant recreate balance and feel via atmospheric pressures and temperatures, but I do agree with you that they are helpful.

you might be suprised at how advanced they are but like I say the data they get race weekends would be used

And the cars do change abit from group test one to race one

The drivers can specify how they want their car to be designed, ie more understeer etc.

Anyway - you see the point about the dosh and wind tunnel testing from honda? Do usf1 have that?

Won't matter whoes driving it? Look at ferrari this year - fisi couldn't get to grips with the ferrari kers, and badoer diddn't know which way to turn the steering wheel.

We are, I was arguing against the dude who was comparing usf1 to honda - I was explaining usf1 don't have drivers to help with the car development.

I had thought of that, but dismissed at as surely (particularly being a new team) they'd want to attract sponsorship and interest?
