I think Alonso shouldn't have won the championship. He's not the best driver and Renault have done nothing but been reliable and run low fuel loads to get him there.

If we had the old points system this would have never happened.

I kind of understand where you're coming from, however under current regulations surrounding the sport 'monobrow' is the rightful World Champion. However, I do agree that the current points system is a sham - it should be race to win - coming second and getting eight points is overkill. :(

I thought I'll revive the last topic on the list (Thu Sep 29, 2005 ).

If Hamilton wins tomorrow does that statement apply to him. So how to determine who's the best driver and isn't winning the WDC proof that the winner is the best one for that year.

Renault have done nothing but been reliable and run low fuel loads to get him there.

So if you have a reliable car and use a good strategy to win is not considered well enough to win?

Under the old points system, would Hamilton be in the lead? I'm too lazy to do the math.

And what has Lewis done? Cheat? Born in England? Be black?

If thats the 10-6-4-3-2-1 system...then lets see

If KR wins - KR wins the title...via most wins (93-93)

If FA wins & LH comes 2nd - LH wins ((LH - 93,) - (KR - 87) - (FA - 91))

IF FA wins & KR comes 2nd & LH 3rd - LH/FA wins - ((LH - 91) - (KR - 89) - (FA - 91)

I think it should be 7 points for 2nd, but keep points for 7th and 8th as it is increasingly difficult to score points when you get the top 6 locked out by McLaren, Ferrari and BMW.

There used to be a 3 point gap between 1st and second in the pre-1991 scoring system when first got 9 points instead of 10. Don't want the winner to get more than 10 points because 10's a nice round number. :)

Or maybe double the points to this:

20-16-12-10-8-6-4-2-1

that means that 9th place gets a point aswell.

Grow up. Hamilton hasn't cheated and his colour has nothing to do with anything, he's no different than you or me.

It is high time Alonso fans, and Alonso himself, realised that there may actually be a better driver in the F1 field. Hamilton, Raikkonen and Alonso deserve to win the championship based upon their actions on track (I won't go into off-track behaviour).

I'm sure a worthy champion will lift the title today.

Off-track was the way that LH collected a lot of points.

Oh grow up will you...Alonso has been beaten fair & square, geez.

Oh, if Alonso wins I'll be happy, as long as Hamilton gets 2nd place but either way I'll be happy for any of the driver's to win the WDC...but I'm still hoping that LH wins!
