The Lotus team seem to be saying that they will be nowhere to start off with and then going to come on form by mid season. Kovi and Gazza have said the same thing now.

Mclaren seem to be saying nothing is certain about how fast they will be. I am not sure if that is a we are going to be quick but want to see how good everyone else is first. or a we have cocked up again and hopefully can sort it out in time.

Sounds pretty bad for lotus, I think McLaren are just saying its too hard to predict - seeing as there will be more contenders expected to be up front this year.

Yeah Lotus aren't exactly the voice of confidence. Virgin sounds a tad more confident with their CFD method, whilst Campos and USF1 can only pray.

Considering that when Super Aguri joined F1 they around 5-6 seconds of the pace, and then around 3 seconds come the end of the season. The new teams have to be realistic on the fact they're going to get nowhere near the existing teams this year. But Super Aguri came back in 2007 much stronger, and where getting into Q2 quite often. So who knows.

I do wonder about McLaren. They fell down during 2009 because they developed so far into 2010. But they've gone and done the same thing again. So we're they'll be is anyones guess. But Ferrari seem in good shape, as do Mercedes, whilst Red Bull are expected to be the pace-setters this year. But what happens in 2010, we'll have to wait and see.

It will be interesting to whether McLaren's decision to continue developing this year as the aero will be similar or Ferrari's decision to stop early will pay off.

talking from McLarens stand point, considering the 2010 aero regs are pretty stable from 09 there is no harm developing an 09 car that had a good base to work on for 2010. Unlike say Ferrari who realised they needed to start from scratch. which doesnt mean they will solve their problems!
And they have not been silent they are very confident in the MP4-25 with simulations proving it to be considerably faster than the 24 which by the end of the year was one of the pace setters.

Usf1 keep talkling confidently about their tech base and stuff and they had that youtube sponsership which sounds good - however they don't seem to have found any drivers. Don't know much about campos.

Force India sound pretty happy- talking about no driver and major staff changes plus with the points they picked up they should be finically ok.

I'm sure manor with bransons money and previous experience will be ok, but with branson talking about danci cos shes pretty you wonder wether he's going to interfere with team decisions from a commercial perspective.

Torro rosso - God help them.

Renault - lost alonso, but may have a good two drivers (kubcia and hedfield) and they started devolpment early. But now with a downshift in resources they may struggle.

Sauber - have to consolidate themselves as an independent team this year, don't expect major things from them, just attempting to pick up points.

Williams - good driver lineup, think they want a fairly small step up from last year.

I think Lotus are actually in a much stronger position that people think, but they seem to be the only team speaking realistically. Nick Wirth is very cocky (perhaps with good reason), though his CFD-only car may well be a very good machine for Virgin. USF1's approach is quite similar, however they have been (intentionally) very quiet over the winter. Their problem, I think, is going to be drivers more than anything. And Campos...well. There's talk of them selling the team before the season even begins.

I thought McLaren's problem last year, as was Ferrari's, single diffuser + KERS. They focused on the wrong thing.

Agreed, how many times have we been duped pre season by controlled press releases?

I remember getting caught up in Pre Season media when Prost were going to be dark horses but we later found out they were running every test lap on fumes and trying to get another sponsor.

I also remember when JV and BAT Racing were going to dominate the world.

Part of Brawn's sensation last year was everyone's low expectations, perhaps Gasgoyne thinks he's got a good car and is playing it down.

This is...uncomfortable new ground for me...But...

 Glad to hear the Macca engineers are confident...

'Scuse me a sec...

Okay...I'm recovered. Hoping JB can get 3 wins and push the Wins up into the double digits at least.
