In a separate story, there is a suggestion in Gazzetta that USF1 has applied to the FIA for a derogation to miss the early fly away races and start at the Spanish Grand Prix in April. This contradicts USF1 sporting director Peter Windsor’s assertion last week that the team will definitely be in Bahrain. It’s Sunday today, but I will follow this up when the offices open on Monday.

I believe these are some of the comments that they were referring to.

Q: There have been suggestions that the team won’t make it on to the Bahrain grid. What is your reply to those rumours?
PW: The thought is ludicrous. I can’t say any more than that we will definitely be on the Bahrain grid.

At this point I doubt Windsor would say something so bold and go back on his word, they will almost certainly be at Bahrain. However I don't throw out the possibility of them missing other races later though, Australia for instance is a rather expensive trip, and also out of the way, I would hate to see any team miss a race due to funding, but it certainly is possible.

It could cost as much to miss the race as it would to ship all the gear over there, seeing as Bernie is quite firm with his contracts. I would like to think that FOTA might be willing to lend some help to get their competitors to those distant races, though.

So here it begins

Anyone wanna make bets on who won't make the grid. Seriously, why weren't prodrive accepted as a new team.

They wouldn't accept the forced Cosworth engine deal. Dave Richards was adamant about having Mercedes engines.

Of all the new teams; USF1 wasn't a team that I would imagine would have funding issues. If USF1 are having funding issues, it doesn't bode well for the other new teams!
