A MBE for doing what exactly ?

Driving a car faster than anyone else during 2009

At least for the first half of the season...

Or on average for the whole season.

That statement doesn't really hold true... Over the course of the season, I would say Sebastian Vettel was faster but made some mistakes and had bad luck. Was Jenson the best driver of the season, yes, he won the world drivers championship so by default he was the best driver of the season, that doesn't always mean fastest!

Besides, winning a F1 championship shouldn't mean automatic MBE, every time a British sportsman or teams wins a major event, they get automatic honours, I simply don't believe that sportsmen that are highly paid to do what they do get honoured because they win a championship, Jenson doesn't even live in the UK anymore!!!

He won more races than anyone else. Ergo, fastest.

Nah you can't say that, Button wasn't as fast as vettle he was just alot more consistant.

Well its not often I find myself agreeing with Jensnob but on this ocassion i do. Im not really a JB fan and I dont think he's the best or fastest driver BUT in 2009 he averaged out faster than everyone else over the season, thats why he was world Champion, and thats why he got his MBE ........for excelling in his sport. MBE's are for excelling in your field. If vettel was faster but made mistakes then over the distance he wasnt faster Jenson was.

Exactly, mistakes drag your average pace down. You can't ignore Vettel hitting walls and go "on that basis he was faster", that's a skewed statistic.
