The Piquet family is understood to have taken a stake in Campos Meta, providing Nelson Jr with a seat for 2010.

According to Spanish website motor21.com, the 24-year old has inked a three-year deal with the former GP2 Series team that will see him partner former sparring partner Bruno Senna in the top flight - but only after his father, three-time F1 world champion Nelson Sr, took a 15 per cent stake in Adrian Campos nascent operation.

I for one would actually be interested to see how he would do in F1 in a team that hasn't got the same horribly restrictive environment that any driver who would have had if they suffered the misfortune to be the second driver at Renault under Briatore....

At least if he is utterly crap and inferior to a team-mate at a team where he's given even remotely equal treatment then he can be consigned the the F1 dustbin content in the knowledge he was given a fair crack of the whip - something he definitely did not get at Renault (taking the crash-gate scenario as a completely different matter of course).

Also, Campos are looking a driver with Sponsorship. Thus why they haven't signed up DeLa Rosa yet. Does Piquet have sponsorship, not anymore. Not after crash-gate. Hiring Piquet would be suicide for any team simply because it would driver sponsors away from the team. Nevermind a team struggling for cash.

I say Piquet will never see F1 again.

I understand having an all Brazlian lineup of Senna and Piquet is enticing for Campos, since that would bring in a lot of Brazilian sponsorship money. Come on though, Piquet is an awful, awful driver.

They should have signed Lucas Di Grassi while they still had the chance.

I always had this kinda bad feeling the Piquets would buy the idiot's way back into F1. Hopefully this is just a rumour

A Spanish motor racing website has admitted its exclusive story about Nelson Piquet signing for the new Campos team was a hoax.

Motor21.com said earlier this week that the 24-year-old 'crashgate' conspirator had penned a three year deal, with his triple world champion father and namesake buying a 15 per cent stake in the Spanish outfit.

The news was published on December 28, the Spanish holiday known as 'Day of the Innocents', which is similar to April Fools' Day.

Motor21.com confirmed that the Piquet story was indeed a "celebration" of the holiday.
