Hey everyone, I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I'm from Toronto, Canada and am a huge formula 1 fan.
I guess you can say I'm a relatively new fan. I didn't get into the sport until 2005. It happened by chance, I happened to be watching television one morning an f1 race happened to be on. I started to watch it, not knowing any of the drivers or anything, and i immediately loved the sport. I found it much more exciting than the American racing circuit, NASCAR. Quite frankly, NASCAR doesn't even compare to f1. Not even close.
Anyways, on the internet I did some research about the drivers and teams and I started to become familiar with some of the drivers and teams. I became a casual fan and I watched a couple more races in 2005. The same thing went for 2006, I watched a couple of races. That is, until the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix. That changed everything. Jenson Button was my favourite driver, I'm not sure why but for whatever reason I latched on to him and Barichello at Honda. To see Button get his 1st f1 win in stunning fashion was amazing for me. I can remember what Martin Brundle said when Jenson crossed the finish line so perfectly.
"Yes! yes! yes! I can't believe I was the one commentating for this race! My thunder what have you done! This is fantastic! Jenson Buttton!"
At that moment, I became much more than a casual fan. I haven't missed a single race since then. I watched videos of some F1 greats on the internet, did research on some of the best drivers in f1 over the years, and so now I have a wealth of knowledge of f1 and it's history. I look forward to talking about formula 1 in this forum, because I have no one else to talk about f1 with. None of my friends or family watch f1.
F1 gets little or no coverage in the newspaper here in Canada, except when the Canadian Grand Prix comes to Montreal. They do show the all the qualifying sessions and the races on TV though, and we actually get 2 different feeds. One channel picks up the BBC broadcast, and another American channel (SPEEDTV) has their own broadcast. All I can say is, thank god for the BBC feed because there is nothing worse than American announcers talking about F1.
Some random facts about me:
Favourite Current Drivers:
Jenson Button
Rubens Barichello
Michael Schumacer
Fillipe Massa
Most Hated Current Drivers:
Lewis Hamilton
Heikki Kovalainen
Favourite F1 circuit:
Spa-Francorchamps
Most Hated F1 circuit:
Valencia Street Circuit
I do have a conflict of interest this season, as Jenson is my favourite driver but he races for Mclaren. Being more of a Ferrari fan, I HATE Mclaren. Especially Lewis Hamilton. Can't stand the guy.
Cheers!
