The other day I was thinking about how Honda, BMW & Toyota left F1. All three citing cost being the major factor but BMW did drop the hint as did Toyota & Honda that they want to spend money on developing more greener engines and that F1 is no longer the right R&D environment for that.

However I think soon enough, within the next 5 years that we will see a large amount of manufacturers coming back to F1 with engines on offer.

Why? The refueling ban.

I think its a smart move to ban refuelling, engines now have to perform at the highest standards possible consuming the least amount of fuel in order to make the cars lighter which makes them faster.

Renault know their engine is the best on fuel consumption and I think its why they decided to stay in the sport. The cosworth engine will in my opinion drink pertrol. The Mercedes/Ferrari engines already consume quite a bit more than they would like. This in turn the makes the engine freeze something that will be looked at throughout 2010.

I personally expect it to be modified greatly for the 2011 season so manufacturers can start making modifications to their engines again to make them more fuel efficient and thus greener.

Do I sound correct in anyway shape or form? Or has the off season already got to me! :yikes:

I think the whole "greener concept" is utter BS when it comes to racing. Simply compare the mileage and emissions by all racing worldwide for one single year and you will find them to be less than 10% of harmful emissions emitted compared to a single road car driven for one year. Alot of this is simply because a race engine runs a more efficient combustion cycle along with a higher octane fuel aswell with less addictives.

I like the no refueling idea simply because I have witnessed it before and it brought forth more strategic demands on not only the driver but the team.

Tex forget about the green stuff for a moment and look at strategy and fuel consumption separate from all of that. If you produce a fuel efficient engine > carry less fuel > lighter weight fuel loaded car > the faster you go. Whether or not it plays a part in sutil beating schumacher is yet to be seen (unlikely), but you get my point..

Yes but for F1 to be used as a R&D project for manufacturers to create and figure out new ways for engines to produce high levels of power but consume less fuel will cause the advancements to trickle down to the road cars produced by those manufacturers.

Seems like a reasonable argument, especially given the impending change to the engine regs.

mmm. Good question. There's some interesting inter team rivalries and there's the Schumach]er prospect. Good job really since they havent addressed the lack of overtaking but have removed the engineered version.

Amen to that

That sounds like a science fiction flm where they try to genetically engineer humans with extra long chins and slightly twisted mouths. :hehe:

I have it from the horse's mouth, the current MS is actually bio-engineered, grown from some of the old MS's stem cells and thus, biologically much younger and fitter (they simply mask this with an artificially aged skin and all as to not raise suspicions).
Proof?
F1live:
[...]di Montezemolo indicated he did not understand the logic of his return. "There must be another one who looks like him. He is German, has the same name, same age, 40 or 41, and has decided to try again. I like this person but he is another Michael. The one I know confirmed to me he would finish his career at Ferrari.

"The real Schumacher, the one I know, will remain forever part of the Ferrari family. I said it in Monza and I repeated it in Abu Dhabi, but, it seems he has a twin brother, identical in every way, who seems to have it in his head to go and race in Formula One with Mercedes.

"I don't know what the possibilities are at Mercedes for this other guy called Michael. For me it is difficult. If I talk with him as a friend and see this determination, I am pleased. But as Ferrari chairman I'm sad. He has given a lot to Ferrari and received a lot from us. This is why we have to accept that there is another Michael, not the real Michael that we knew.

I favour the ban as for many, watching an F1 race was far too complicated when factoring in fuel strategies. The winning car is going to be in front much more of the time.
