I think he will go back to Renault, the challenge of picking Renault up again might be refreshing for him. It's one of the reasons why Schumacher decided to move to Ferrari back in 1996.

There was interesting speculation about Red Bull. It is not completely senseless... RB has money. And one of the best F1 designers in the game. Basically, they have potential to be real good. And Mark Webber was mentioned as one of potential FA's replacement in McLaren, anyway.

It would be interesting to see MW and LH in the same team. I don't think MW would complain about LH's favourable position in the team, but I don't see him being huge LH's supporter as well.

There was interesting speculation about Red Bull. It is not completely senseless... RB has money. And one of the best F1 designers in the game. Basically, they have potential to be real good. And Mark Webber was mentioned as one of potential FA's replacement in McLaren, anyway.

I don't like Alonso, but noway is Alonso going to Redbull it be stupid of anyone in F1 to make him end up there. Mark is managed by Ron Dennis biggest enemy Briatore. Mark have damage his own career by making Briatore his manager I wouldn't drop Alonso for Mark Noway. Briatore should give Mark a seat Not Dennis because Webber is sign up with Briatore.

Personally, I don't give a rat's arse where he ends up. For all I know, he could drive for deep-pocketed Toyota or go back home to Renault/Briatore.

If he does move you have to think Renault is the only real option... but who would give way? Alonso has worked with Fisichella before and i imagine would like him as a team mate again, but presumerably Renault would want to keep Kovalainen.

The thing is, I don't believe staying at McLaren will be good for either him or his current team. Renault is an option, and I'll have to look it up, but are there any better drives available? I think Ferrari is shut now, but maybe BMW, Prodrive?

Honestly believe if it's not Renault, it's Toyota.

He'll love the NO.1 status and with the big bucks behind him and in his Swiss Bank, I just wouldn't be surprised.

Heikki will be much improved in his second season and Alonso could find himself in the same position all over again...

I have to disagree, Alonso is driven to be number one, and that extends well beyond his own team. If he doesn't win the Championship in Brazil, and I think he may well do, he'll only come back stronger in 2008. For all his faults, he is one of the most driven drivers of the existing line-up, and sometimes this can rub people up the wrong way.

I have to disagree, Alonso is driven to be number one, and that extends well beyond his own team. If he doesn't win the Championship in Brazil, and I think he may well do, he'll only come back stronger in 2008. For all his faults, he is one of the most driven drivers of the existing line-up, and sometimes this can rub people up the wrong way.

Well if he is that determined and driven then a chance to make Toyota one of the big boys would surely be up his street.

Schuey joined Ferrari in '96 and they were terrible and now one of the dominant forces of F1 here today. His determination and skill helped Ferrari in so many ways and that could be the same as Toyota, they just need a talent to make it happen and maybe in 10-15 years time, we could see Toyota always challenging for the title...

Sadly given Toyota's "money gets you everywhere" attitude, not even a driver like Alonso could make them Champions.

The difference between Toyota now and Ferrari in 1995 is that Ferrari did have quite a decent car and team but just something a little lacking to put them ahead of Benetton and Williams, Toyota on the other hand have staff who don't seem to have a clue and a car that looks like a rehash of their original car.

Apart from the 1997 Hungarian GP, not even Damon Hill could do much with his over-hyped big-bad-Tom Arrows team.

I think that McLaren will be so glad to get rid of him that they will be willing to swap him for Kovalainen. Briatore wouldn't hesitate. Of course Alonso would be delighted to have Fisichella as his team mate as Fisichella is basically washed up and will never amount to a challenge. Perhaps he might be a half decent "rear gunner" but even that is debatable.

I don't see any viable options other than Briatore who seems to have the patience Alonso requires, which probably comes from Briatore's extensive experience of the female psyche.

If I were Dennis, I would want £50,000,000 + Kovalainen for the Spaniard. But that would be the starting point for negotiation... actually I'd be willing to take a couple of quid.

Well then, Toyota could be a viable option. Alonso has proven himself in the garage this season, supposedly adding 0.5 seconds to the McLaren after tinkering with the backend. He certainly has a great deal to offer to a well financed team like that.

A swap with Kovalainen could work, but Fisichella is more likely to get the boot.

McLaren obviously are not going to trade for Fisichella. If they want Alonso then it's Kovalainen + cash as far I can see.

last year I was thinking why did Alonso move from Renault (who were far supeior) to McLaren who seemed to be falling back... but it paid off

So I wouldnt be surprised if he moves to Renault or Toyota and will be competitive again in 2008
