Yeah, so 2010 is the 60th anniversary of FIA Formula 1 world championship. 60 years! woooooo. I'm sure next year, whoever does your F1 coverage will have something on it but I want to get the ball rolling early!

Favourite drivers for each decade? teams?

Favourite drivers/teams ever?

Your thoughts on the evolution of F1, what was bad, good, what should come back...

So much to talk about in such a small thread! :D

good idea for a thread mate.

50's Fangio + Maserati
60's Lotus + Clark
70's Ferrari + Stewart
80's Mclaren + Prost
90's Williams + Senna
00's Schumacher + Ferrari

Fave driver and team ever..... hmm they where all good in there time frame.

Evolution, it is all good, but I still feel that F1 should be the pinnacle of Motorsport so all these restrictions are bad. However that is the purist in me. I think the major problem for the show is down force, but without wings we might as well watch Touring cars.

I would love to see a totally unrestricted car just to see how fast it is. So a Turbo powered 5L V12 boosting to 20bar with ABS, ESP, AYC, Active Ride, computer controlled front and rear wings, ground effect, mass dampers/j damper, triple diffuser. Just think of the size of gravel traps that would be needed :-)

Hmm this one wakes the brain up first thing :hehe:

50's : Stirling Moss - Maserati

60's : Jim Clark - Lotus

70's : James Hunt - McLaren

80's : Ayrton Senna - McLaren,Lotus,Toleman

90's : Ayrton Senna - McLaren (Mika Häkkinen) if I can't have Ayrton twice

00's : Lewis Hamilton - McLaren

All time : Ayrton Senna - McLaren

Mainly get rid of these poxy new track designs. As jabber said get the old gravel traps back and have the proper circuits.Instead of which one has the best scenary or the biggest harbour.Oh or the ones with the most money that no one goes to. :hehe:

I can't limit myself to one driver per decade so...

50's - I'm far too ignorant when it comes to this era so I'll have to go with the few drivers I actually know, Fangio, Moss & Hill.
60's - Jim Clark & Jackie Stewart
70's - James Hunt :cloud9: & Niki Lauda
80's - Senna
90's - Senna
00's - Hamilton and, to a lesser extent, Alonso

Teams:
50's - Haven't got a clue
60's - Lotus & McLaren
70's - McLaren, Williams, Hesketh (but only with Hunt at the wheel :whistling: ) & Lotus
80's - McLaren & Williams
90's - McLaren & Williams
00's - McLaren & Williams

Bit predictable really and ever so slightly patriotic :scratchchin:

Awesome input guys. Clearly Senna is the great of greats!

Now im 18. I was a casual fan for many years, i never watched a whole season through but I do know F1 well now despite that... I missed so much :(

50's - Stirling Moss - Maserati
60's - Clark & Stewart
70's - Hunt
80's - Senna, Mansell, WILLIAMS
90's - Senna, Williams, McLaren
00's - Williams, Jordan

And today, WILLIAMS & all the underdogs, they're too likeable these days dammit

50's - Moss, Ascari
60's - Clark, Stewart
70's - Villeneuve, Hunt, Regazzoni, Cevert
80's - Mansell, Senna, Berger
90's - Hill, Alesi, Hakkinen, Panis, Katayama
00's - Raikkonen, Trulli, Glock, Alonso

Obviously drivers carry over to the other decades they competed in! It'd be a long(er) list otherwise. Didn't do it for the manufacturers, my opinions of some of em have changed...

50's - None as such, i guess Alfa Romeo even though it was only 2 years...
60's - Lotus, Tyrrell
70's - Ferrari, Tyrrell, Lotus
80's - Williams, Leyton House
90's - Williams, Jordan, Minardi
00's - Red Bull, Williams, Super Aguri

Apologies for the lengthy response. :hehe::)

The thing i think that F1 is missing the most is the great tracks of the pre 1970s. Modern F1 has amazing cars, great teams and talented drivers but none of the breathtaking tracks it used to have so many of.

My favourite drivers;

1950s - Ascari, Moss, DePortago
1960s - Clark, Stewart, Rodriguez (both of them), Rindt, Siffert, Gurney, Ickx
1970s - Villenueve, Pryce, Peterson, Cevert, Lauda
1980s - Rosberg, Bellof, Senna
1990s - Schumacher, Hakkinen
2000s - Raikkonen, Alonso, Rosberg, Vettel

My favourite teams;

1950s - Mercedes, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Bugatti, Talbot Lago
1960s - Lotus, Cooper, BRM, Matra, Ferrari, Porsche, Honda, Eagle
1970s - Renault, Ligier, Tyrrell
1980s - Brabham, Minardi
1990s - Jordan, Sauber
2000s - BMW
