Star Trek was amazing! Action-packed from the very beginning
2012The only film I liked from this director was Independence Day and that was back in '97 or something ? He likes to do his sort-of world is going end plots
Ditto. I loved Independence Day, it was ridiculous but in a very fun way. I think that disaster movies that are this far fetched need a lot of humour to make them work.
When it comes to Star Trek I'm completely biased, I'm a bit of a Trekkie.
I have just started to watch Enterprise as I could not be bothered with it when it came out... Just started season 3 and I think it has gone off the boil.
I watched Jennifers Body the other day and that was terrible, and so is the Orphan when it comes to it.
I think the thing with the new film is that most hard core trekkies did no like it because it was an action movie and there was a new captain (IE not shattner)
It did however open the film up to a whole new generation that just thought the Star Trek world was full of geeks and comicbook guys like The Simpsons

Who needs Shattner when you have Pine

I missed this post.
I think most hard core Trekkies liked it but had a few gripes.
I hated the way Uhura was made into the love interest, rather than having a properly defined role. Every time she was on screen it was either for Kirk to flirt with her or to run after, and comfort, Spock. In the original series the only glimpse we really got at a Uhura/Spock romance was in a very early episode when she's singing in the mess hall, Spock's smiling in it (very out of character) but it was one of the first ever episodes before they'd really decided where to go with the characters. His main romance was Nurse Chapel and even that was one sided.
I also didn't like them killing Amanda Grayson or the destruction of Vulcan but I suppose by creating an alternate reality it leaves them free to create their own timeline, without tampering with the already well established Trek history and getting on the wrong side of their original fan base.
I wasn't hugely fond of Scotty being the comic relief either.

I agree with you about Uhura but i think Amanda Grayson's death was kinda needed as an a reason to really show a upset spock.
Scotty wasn't great tho simon pegg is a funny man in the sense he's slapstick and the scotty i remember wasn't really like that.
