Following an impressive debut season in which he showed the way to team-mates Sebastien Bourdais and Jaime Alguersuari, Sebastien Buemi has signed up to remain with Toro Rosso Ferrari for next season.

"I had some contact with other teams due to my good results at the end of the season," he told the Television Suisse Romande programme Sport Dimanche. "Toyota could have been a possibility because they had not yet hired any drivers.

"That was not the only one, and anyway I was always talking with (Toro Rosso owner) Red Bull. Finally I signed with Toro Rosso for 2010.”

Buemi also indicated that Jamie Alguersuari will probably return for his first full season with the team.

"I assume that he will team up with me next year," he said. "I think the team chose to change in the middle (of the season) because we can't really do any testing so he may as well get used to the car now."

Fair play, the guy has done a decent enough job to get a second shot at it, especially in the last couple of races this season (despite the odd crash - ie Suzuka Q3).

Anthony Hamilton has denied reports that his son Lewis is opposed to Kimi Raikkonen joining McLaren next season.

Raikkonen is without a 2010 race-seat after being released a year early from Ferrari contract. According to speculation, the Scuderia have agreed to pay Raikkonen either his full salary if he sits out next year's campaign or half if he signs a deal with another Formula One team.

However, his options for next season are limited, even more so by his statement that the only F1 team he will race for is McLaren.

In a separate twist, it has been reported that Hamilton is not in favour of the Finn rejoining the team. Hamilton's father, however, has denied these rumours, even going as far as to say that Raikkonen is the best option for McLaren.

"First of all I must say that neither Lewis nor I have any influence to the driver situation at McLaren," he told Turun Sanomat.

"But if World Championships are needed, then Kimi is also needed by the team, in my opinion.

"Kimi is the best driver that is available. Lewis and Kimi would surely goad each other in the best way to improve their performances."

But as a deal has yet to be reached, McLaren could still opt to retain Heikki Kovalainen - a decision that Hamilton Sr is not opposed to either.

"If I myself made the choice between Kimi or Heikki, I would take Kimi but I'm not against Heikki continuing," he added.

"We have always liked Heikki. He is a shining team-mate who does his work well. Kimi, however, is such a cool type. In my option he is the best driver that could join Lewis at McLaren next season."

Good Glad you don't have any say.

Now Sign Kimi Already Mclaren!

Nakajima insists 2009 wasn't all bad
Monday, 09 November 2009 15:48

Kazuki Nakajima feels his driving improved in 2009 even though he failed to score any points.

The Japanese driver made a good impression with several top eight finishes in his rookie year, but lost momentum this season and trailed his Williams team-mate Nico Rosberg.

Nakajima reckons it was just circumstances in races that prevented him scoring this year, and that his actual performances were better than they had been before.

"It has gone in a very disappointing way in terms of results, but there were a lot of positive aspects as well," he told the Williams podcast.

"I think I improved quite a lot from last year and have been a lot more consistent in qualifying and in the races.

"So it was a good season in one way, but in the results it was not as expected.

"Especially in the middle of the season we had a lot of races where we could have scored a point but it didn't happen.

"Sometimes just a problem in the pit stop, sometimes just losing a bit of time on out and in-laps which caused me to hit traffic.

"It's just so tight in the field and when you lose something it just doesn't work out."

The 24-year-old now faces an uncertain Formula 1 future, having been dropped by Williams, but says he still has options in the championship.

"There are some opportunities for next year," Nakajima said.

"Talking is going on and I'm sure I'll end up with something, but we have to make sure we choose the right one."

He must think we're stupid... so long Naka-san. :wavey-finger:

His driving may have improved? It also may not have improved. The man had no points. End of. No points = no drive in my opinion.

Especially when your team mate has 34.5!

A question: Toro Rosso should still be on sale since the limitations on customer cars from 2008 will kick in, STR should build a car on its own. Will it merge/be bought out?

Yeah, they are building their own car this coming season.

With Toyota out, things look bleak for some drivers. Kobyashi drove well in his two races and shows talent that should be used in the sport.
If I was the Lotus manager, I would like my team to be Glock and Kobyashi. This would give them strength which they need and have 2 young and up and coming drivers to work with over the next few years.

I believe McClaren should have Lewis, but look for a strong but up and coming driver to join him and not Kimi. I wouldn't want to see the bad atmosphere we saw when Alonso was there.
