Mercedes aren't leaving F1 in 2011, but it's possible that they may part ways with Mclaren at that point. Mercedes have always really wanted their own team, but Mclaren won't sell out. In that case Mclaren would probably need to find an alternative engine supplier - hence the subject of this thread. Brawn GP is the main contender for a works Mercedes team.

whats clear is Mercedes wants a bigger piece of an F1 team. McLaren do not want to give them that and it appears they too want to be a lone constructor. I just hope that if Mercedes do buy out Brawn they dont pull a BMW and pull out after realising its not as easy as it looks!

I would hope that they would learn from that business model, I would hope Merc where clever enough to keep the management team in place.

its not about that, its about commitment. owning 40% of an F1 team is fairly cheap compared to full control or even 75%. F1 is expendable for auto manufactures as we have seen

But as soon as a corporation runs an F1 team problems come in. Look at the Stewart to Jaguar, before and after results!

Even BAR to Honda to a lesser extent.

F1 teams have to be adaptable and able to change things quickly, as soon as a corporation tries to run an F1 team it brings it's own company structure, with a million middle managers.

but my point was commitment to the sport and not about running the team. whether they dont change the structure of Brawn or not is irrelevant if in 3 years they decide its costing too much and sell up just like BMW did.

Ah ok I see where your coming from now.

I would hope that in a few year time costs are down to an acceptable level. If not then could Brawn be able to support itself as Ferrari do?!?

by selling Road cars? The only other F1 team that is going to use Ferrari's structure is McLaren.

I think the idea is for Brawn to be a profitable F1 team. I know, I know, seems like a fantasy. But that would seem to be the plan.
