I say go fishing McLaren.
I do concede Kimi is a good catch......but they already have lewis , which kinda makes the second catch a little less crucial :D

mclaren is simply trying a legit scam on kimi. everybody knows that. everybody can see that. they trying to get a first class driver for peanuts on the hope that he wants a drive for next year. lets hope he turns them down. they have proved in the past they cant be trusted.... I think the iceman jnow what he's doing. I say go fishing Kimi.

No there trying to get Kimi for as cheap as possible its not a scam its called a "negotiation"

Yes, that's why they 'fished' Kovalainen and look what happened.

I say Kimi ask for 10 M at Mclaren, plus the 10 M from Ferrari. That's good enough.
Kimi making 5 M, while Lewis is making 15 M is ridiculous, regardless of what Ferrari is paying. After all, Kimi will crush the Hamster......

To an extent, it is none of McLaren's business what Raikkonen is being paid. However, McLaren have made their offer and it's up to Raikkonen to either accept it or turn it down. My own personal view is that McLaren should not pay Raikkonen $15 million a year, as Hamilton is on a similarly large salary and I just don't think Raikkonen is worth the money anyway.

If he wants a drive for next season, for one of the top teams no less, then he'll take the 5m from McLaren and the 10m from Ferrari and get on with it. It appears he's not likely to get a better deal anywhere else; although I can't blame him for holding off, he might as well give it a try.

If he prefers the extra 2m, rather than a chance at the 2010 championship, then I don't consider it a huge loss for McLaren. He might be one of the best drivers on the grid but if he lets money get in the way of success then I doubt his heart's really in it anyway.

Funny seeing the anti McLaren brigades reasoning in this thread

I think it's the principle of the matter that gets some of our goats after reading McLaren "realising this" and how they justify their so-called offer.

Here's a sarcastic equivalent of what McLaren is trying to do IMHO:

"Hey Mr. F1 Driver, we consider 15M/year 'a very healthy amount' for you and would like you to drive for us. BTW, we heard your uncle recently went belly up and left you 10M... so here's another 5M to make us as good as our 'word'. How does that sound buddy boy???" - McLaren

Yep totally same thing with Button if he has a salary increase its taking money from car development.

Big pay check or World titles - i know what I'd choose.

I think McLaren will go up to 7 mil. If not, and Kimi doesn't take the 5 mil I think McLaren should be looking at drivers like Heidfeld. If McLaren keep Kovalainen for 2010, they can kiss the constructors title good bye imo.

All's fair in love, war and...errr business. Why pay more than you have to? McLaren appear to have Kimi over a barrel, I can't really blame them for exploiting it. It might not be the most morally correct behaviour, but then what is when it comes to business/money. They'd be daft to fork out extra unknown millions when they can get him for 5.
