I think, lower acceleration but higher top speed. For example a car with a wing could reach 200mph quicker than a car without but the car without the wing could continue getting faster while 200mph might be the max speed of the car with the wing. And the car with the wing can corner much faster than without.

If your question is will a car without a wing have a higher top speed than a car with then yes it will but if your question is can a car without a wing be faster round a track than a car with then usually not but there might be some tracks where it's closer than others

Read Matchett's book, The Chariot Makers. Doesn't talk about the speed of sound, but expalins in detail the reasons for the locations, dimentions etc of every screw on the car, and how to do it.

Weiping... in F1 racing EVRYTHING is compromise.

In the end you only have 1 source of energy (the engine). This energy (HP) output is transformed into forces which will either "push" the car FORWARD by means of the transmission, wheels etc; and into forces which push the car DOWNWARD by means of aero gadgets... To be fast in F1 you need the best possible balance between both because of very specific characteristics of F1 racing.

This is why there are a lot of different "styles" of racing. Take drag racers, they have HUGE back tyres which compensate the lack of grip due to low downforce, and they brake with parachutes. They have more acceleration than any other type of racing, but I could beat them around the Monaco circuit in a bycicle.

From a standing start, initially there will be little difference but as the speed increases and the wing starts to produce downforce the car with the wings will have more grip so can apply more force through the tyres without them slipping and be able to accelerate faster but then at higher speeds the wing will produce a lot of drag which will limit the top speed and the car without the wings will be able to reach a higher top speed, it'll just take longer to get there (or to match the speed of the car with the wings).

Interesting question!

Well, cars can already travel at the speed of sound (I believe Richard Noble was the first to do so in 1983). However, the car weighted around 20,000 pounds so I don't think it would be suited to the tight bends of an F1 circuit!...

Actually it wasn't broken in '83, thrust 2 did 633mph if my memory serves correctly. But Thrust SSC (super sonic car) did break the sound barrier in '97 reaching 763mph.

The problem with these speeds is that tyres cant take the forces generated, which is why both cars used solid aluminium wheels.

If we had Super-sonic F1 racing:

1. Size of the circuits: The GP of USA would be actually around Texas (state); Bye Bye GP Monaco... China could maybe host 2 tracks.... GP of Italy: pit lane in Rome, turn 5 somewhere around Milan.

2. Braking: the drivers would melt if anywhere near the brakes (or the engine for that matter). Even with Liquid hydrogen-cooled brakes and A/C in the cockpit. Brake compound: see tyres below.

3. Turning: oh wow, where do we start... "Telemetry" will actually measure driver brain-activity via live feed, with a certified med unit in the pits to apply RC electroshock to revive drivers after turns. Tight turns will have a radius about the size of Luxemburg...

4. Fuel: Nuclear reactors are banned from F1. You have to pit on each lap, refueling takes about 30 mins.

5. Tyres: the Bridgestone "hard" compound is made from Diamond.

6. Helicopter-cam changes to Sattelite view.

7. First aid: changed from Ambulances to Heavy constrtruction equipment. Better not hit the Eiffel Tower...
