Quite the contrary Tony. If anyone did put Lewis as the 'best F1 driver of all time' then I'd probably, not quite "pick a fight" with them, but at least have a discussion about why I think they're wrong.

No one is saying Lewis is the absolute best, just that, to a lot of us, he's a far better than Jenson. But, like I said earlier, the full list is ridiculous in my opinion.

I think it is unfair to put anyone current on a list like this. Who is to know if drivers like Kimi, Alonso, Lewis are spent forces and will be classed as a waste of space in a few years time. On the other hand one of them might win the next 10 WDC in which case they would be a lot higher.

I agree. We can't possibly know what the rest of someone's career will look like and, even after someone retires, I think it's a good idea to give it a few years to gain some perspective.

Alesi's best days were in 1989 and 1990 when he was throwing the Tyrrell around and giving Senna problems, especially at Phoenix.

I disagree: a list as this is always going to be (or trying to be) a reflection of the current status, from back when to today. As such, it's always going to be subject to revision down the road. So, some drivers on the list may move up in the all-time status based on their future achievements, some might get overtaken. Only the truly greats will stay at the top as they WERE great.

Tony I think you might be missing something here. The idea of the list is that you put on it drivers you think are good and you omit drivers you dont think are any good, or at least shift them right down your list. You dont omit them cos you dont like them.

I agree with you to an extent but I think it is easier to think of someone on the list as a past driver. as I am sure that if the list was completed in the middle of Lie-gate, that would of moved Hamilton down the list to where he is now.

Look at Button in the first half of the year I am sure he would of been rated higher than he would be now because of the poor second half in comparison.

hi Anna .. no my dear.. i think you missing my point. The list is really irrelevant to me. I only checked where Massa and Kimi was on it and only posted the question after objections from lewis fanclub. I actually agree that current drivers should not be included on a list of this nature. I did not suggest that he be omitted.

In general, I think lists like this are just a bit of fun. But I will say one thing. I believe the truly great drivers were mostly pre-WWII. They had to be fast in some of the most unweildly beasts ever created. Compared to how cars almost drove themselves in the 90s and early 00s, I'd put my money down on Nuvolari to win a championship in heaven.
