Why not Patrick Long or Scott Sharp. ALMS drivers would be far more suitable for transition than NASCAR.I for one would like NASCAR to a driver blackhole for one.

And Tex. to be fair 99% of the karting they do is on dirt ovals not road courses.

I agree. As a new team, USF1 needs to concentrate on getting the very best of staff. At the best of times, 2010 is going to be a struggle for them. Petty nationalism is only going to make things worse for them.

they said right now no US driver qualifies for a FIA super license since it doesnt recognize any US motorsports, only international. so for 2010 it will have to be someone who already has one.

Maybe it will convert more nascar fans to consider watching F1, but come on, a nascar and a open wheel f1 car are totally different. We all remember how horrible micheal andretti did going from Indy car to F1, saying how different they felt, the difference between a nascar to current F1 car is a totally different world.

Yes, but remember how a certain Juan Montoya went in F1.

I'd like to see it very much. He'd need to up his fitness for one though, but it would be a great challenge for undoubtedly talented guy.

Mr. Chubby didn't come from Nastycar to F1!

Why not a NASCAR driver?? (setting the superlicense issue aside)

It may be a crap category, but drivers are drivers and everyone has to 'get used' to driving in F1 anyway... maybe a NASCAR guy can bring in lots of sponsor money, high profile and some pro racing experience (ie dealing with 'the pressure'). Whether they'll look forward to being humbled in F1, that's another issue :) Even if it were done with a sense of patriotism... so what?

I reckon the line up will be Marco Andretti and Scott Speed,

I also read some where Jacques Villenuve was interested in driving again for this team

Yeah, NASCAR wouldn't have been my first choice of places to go hunting for a driver for F1. I'd prefer to go to road racing like ALMS or Grand-Am. I recall seeing Busch in one Grand-Am race earlier this year, however, and while I don't follow NASCAR I have many friends that do and they say he's done some non-NASCAR stuff and that he's decent outside of NASCAR, so.... *shrug* I guess I can hope that he'll get some of the NASCAR crowd to give F1 a look.

I'd like to see a NASCAR guy have a go. Then we'll see if they can really drive

I'd be curious about his performance.

you guys got a point, basically to see if he has enough talent to transfer into a F1 car, but that is a big risk.. bigger risk then say Piquet jr or Bourdais lol

The weight transfer/grip from nascar to light weight open wheel will be a large one.. But if Loeb can do some impressive lap times in an f1 car while coming from rally, i suppose its possible.

This generation of F1 favors young drivers with sharp reflexes and the best hand/eye coordination. Seems like the field of drivers in alms/nascar etc would already be past their prime for F1.

Reading info on Scott Speed, he competed in the Red Bull F1 drivers search, won that, then they sent him off to do some British Formula 3 to formula renault to GP2 than F1.. so i guess they threw him at it.

USF1 im guessing will probably look into a drivers program.

I'd personally like to see this - just as I like to see ex-F1 drivers in other formulae. I'm always interested to see how driver skills cross over to other surfaces, machinery etc. Follow the fortunes of Montoya in NASCAR, various in Indy, Prost, Panis, Gachot etc. in the Trophee Andros, various in Le Mans etc.

There are enough driver slots on the grid for plenty of people to get their chance - only wanting to see those directly from Gp2 / F3 and other open wheel development series is just a form of motorsport snobbery.

Why do you say that, is it just because you think they, the drivers, come from a certain area of the US that has nothing but dirt? JJ the 3 time champ is from Cali as are a few other driver's. Take my word for it that concrete and asphalt are not exclusive to only certain area's of the US. :)
