Worst things about my job:
- I have very little time to think/do things for myself.
- The underpaid cheap labor workers i sometimes depend on to get the job done...
- The stress and pressure of delivering projects on time, with quality and above all: cheap.

Best things:
- Lots of outdoor work. (and in a previous job, i got to travel to exotic dam and reservoir locations around the country).
- Something new everyday (ussually a new problem that needs a new solution). The same day never repeats.
- Lots of design, technical and mathematical stuff to play around with on a daily basis....

(I'm a Civil Engineer)

A couple of years ago i used to work with the government in the Reservoir/Dam management authority (flood relief, river and hydropower management etc), it was VERY interesting and important work, specially in the hurricaine season... but we had similar problems to JulietP's...

I would not worry. Things in the civil service are quite cushy.

I can't do my current job as I have yet to find someone to employ me here in the US of A; been eligible for work for about four months... even Walmart won't hire me :(

but my previous job/profession was a live sound engineer/DJ:

Best
Not having to start work until 5pm.
Working with and meeting amazing people, bands, musicians.
Getting paid to see live music.

Worst
Having to babysit DJ's who seem intent on destroying a 12Kw soundsystem.
Working with not so nice people/bands who seem intent on making themselves sound like total sh*t, ignoring my advice!
Annoying trainee (studio) sound engineers from a local sound engineering school who think they know better than me, someone with six years practical experience.

I work in IT I'm a 2nd Line Analyst.

Best Aspects

Helping People - Its nice when you find a solution to a problem a person is having or find a way to make someone's life easier by bringing in a new piece of technology.

Being Challenged - I like the challenge of being presented with a problem and figuring out how to fix it, and from this your always learning.

Travelling - I get to travel abit for my job its pretty cool visiting different places, and actually meeting people in different offices, i really like driving which helps.

Worst Aspects

First People to Blame - IT tends to always be the first person to get the finger pointed at them even when its not our fault.

Being The Bad Guys - As soon as we put a website lock down in our company and people couldn't go on face-book, Twitter, MSN etc.. we were hated but it wasn't our idea it was the Boards but we get the blame.

Overtime - I do alot of it but i don't get paid for it just time in lieu so i can take the odd additional day off but no extra money.

no I wish I got paid that much. I fix radars, radio's, anything with electronics that is not on an aircraft really.

I work offshore in the oil & gas industry

Worst

1) six months of the year away from home (hence why i dissapear from here from time to time)
2) flying to and from work in a helicopter
3) no job stability, as soon as the price of oil drops my jobs on the line

Best

1) six months of the year at home free to do what ever i want
2) the money is ok
3) Dont think there is another good point about my job lol

The Helicopter part sounds great to me, or does it get old rather quickly?
