I know it's not strictly F1 but the 1955 Le Mans crash was horrific, 85 people died.

And the reason why Switzerland outlawed F1 races on their soil.

Switzerland hates cars full stop

I bet if you drove a Ferrari or something of that ilk in Switzerland you'd get dragged out and beaten.

Its terrible with these deaths but i'm so glad the rest of the world didn't react in the same way.

I don't think so - Monteverdi was Swiss. Smart cars are a Swiss invention. They're always participating in the Solar Race. There's a high percentage of Swiss that follow F1 as well.

So why Ban the top level of motor sport then?

Also aren't the traffic rules in Switzerland harsh to say the least?

It was a knee-jerk reaction to Le Mans.

Not sure what you mean by harsh rules? They do have tons of those speed traps, which are illegal stateside...

I always thought Giussepe Farinas crash in 1954 was a bad 1. Killing about 10 spectators and injuring dozens of others not to mention himself just because the Prince or King ( cant remember who ) had decided to make All entries to watch the race free because he was attending. With an overcrowded track, spectators were forced to watch from the most dangerous spots and it was just a tragedy waiting to happen.

These things half the time just come down to stupidity, even by 50s standard this was incredibly dangerous and stupid, something that could easily been avoided.

Not unless they've changed their approach recently. Think about it: the cops make a ton of money on speeding tickets. Why would they send a speedster to the sin bin? They raised the ticket prices not too long ago - that's the Swiss way :P

The Swiss have to get their money somewhere since it is a tax haven for the insanely rich.
