Bernie knows all to well what a blow it is to lose a driver and friend. He lost one when he was a team principle.
In those days we all accepted the risk and I have no doubt that Ayrton would have absolutely nothing against Bernie's comments. He would almost certainly laugh his head off.
Today the sport is emaciated and safe. It even allows drivers to crash on purpose, a decision I cannot see any of the old drivers ever even slightly contemplating. That bred sportsmanship.
I have no idea how many of todays drivers would have the 'guts' to race cars from the past and how many are little girl's blouses pretending to be macho.
We see plenty of the later these days in City centers all over the world at weekends.
Skill is all there is to judge today, not a rounded driving ability pitted against the ultimate risk.

Whatever point Bernie is trying to put across it is disgraceful that he believes Senna's death was "good". I cried when Senna died, Hamilton and Alonso said they cried infact a lot of people around the world cried. Bernie should be lynched for those disrespectful comments.

That would have depended on how much longer Senna would have kept going, I reckon he could have gone on as far as 2000, and by this time Hakkinen would have entered the equation.

Whilst the way he said it was quite insensitive, Ecclestone makes a very valid point. Any sporting tragedy on such a level is always going to increase the publicity of the sport in question.

I'll reserve judgment until i see the original article, the one posted was clearly selectively quoting and I'm inclined to question it's balance after the gratuitous inclusion of the Hitler comment

Knowing Bernie, I wouldn't be surprised if the original context made the quote worse.

HAHAHAH Cheap shot by the Brazilians. Bernie has said this in the past. It's simply another recycled story. He may well have reiterated it over the weekend, but it will have been misquoted or blow out of proportion. Bud's first post defined it - Formula one on a number of front grew because of the tragic loss of Senna. Although I wished it had never happened, you could say that his llasting egacy is part of the sport's development.
