Timo Glock will not compete in the Brazilian Grand Prix due to injuries sustained in qualifying at Suzuka, Toyota has announced.

Glock was initially diagnosed with only a minor cut to his leg following his accident in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix, but according to the team, subsequent medical checks in Germany have revealed a cracked vertebra. Doctors have therefore ruled him out of this weekend's race. Kamui Kobayashi will replace him at Interlagos and a decision on Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be made in due course.

"Obviously everyone in the team is very disappointed and feels for Timo; we wish him a very speedy recovery,” said team president John Howett. “Based on the initial diagnosis, we fully expected Timo to return in Brazil but unfortunately a different injury has been revealed which prevents that.

He will remain in Germany to recover and we hope he can recuperate in time for Abu Dhabi, although at this stage the situation is not clear.

"Kamui was the natural choice to step in and he proved in Suzuka that he is capable of holding his own. It is a difficult task for him but he knows the team will give him its complete support and we know he is motivated to make the most of this unexpected opportunity.

I dont think he will be ready for the season finale either. Could Toyota try and get their 2010 lineup happening early? what ever that lineup is...

So Koybashi will step in.

Based on his GP2 results, I'd instantly be saying he'll be useless and probably qualify dead last. But during practice in Japan last weekend he was surprisingly quick in extremely tricky conditions. So I'm split on this one, but if there is some talent in there, this is the weekend he needs to prove it big time. No pressure then.

That's the kind of injury Mansell always used to keep getting.

I think Kobayashi will be a laughing stock at Interlagos, and the Toro Rosso drivers had better watch their backs in case Kobayashi crashes into them. I'd sooner have Badoer in that car!

Get well soon Timo. :wavey:

Gah, that sucks. :( Hopefully he'll make a speedy recovery and be back for the finale.

*note to self, next time i meet a driver, don't wish them good luck for the rest of the season, it seems to jinx them...

Thats a shame. That cud be long haul depending where exactly the crack is.

Well this is first season for a while where 2 drivers have had to be replaced due to injuries no?

anything to do with the reintroduction of slicks, or the lack of downforce? or just coincidence?

none of the above, people have been getting injured steadilly in F1 for ages, some have been more serious than others. We haven't seen as many big accidents this year as in other years and we haven't seen drivers loosing control more often than in other years so there is no trend imo

Yehaa.
Over the last years, what I can remember crashes-wise:

- Kubica - Canada - 1 race missed - Concussion
- Kovalainen - Stuffed in wall (Germany?) - no injury

And I can't think of any more.
This year, Massa, Glock, then loads of random crasjes last race.

Kovalainen's was in Spain in 2008

2007 saw big crashes from Hamilton (Germany), Raikkonen (Italy), Alonso (Japan) that i remember

2006 was Kubica's in Canada

Heidfeld missed a load of races a couple of seasons back after a massive and mysterious testing accident which BMW seemed reluctant to properly inform anyone about

There have been others too i think...

But no injuries.
I dont actually kniow the point I am trying to prove, nit that I ever do.
Erm, yeha I am saying there aren't usually people missing races, well it isn't that frequent in F1 anymore.

 fair does

i agree that it's been an unusual season in that there have been proper injuries, I just disagree with Rusko in as much as I don't think this is a trend of any sort, just an occurrence

You saying its perhaps because of the new cars having less down force so crashes are more likely to happen?
