That doesn't stop him being a role model.

Never said it does not.

There are loads of black people in Britain taking an interest in Lewis Hamilton because he's damn good and it gives them a more direct form of inspiration.

Inspiration is great regardless of color, creed or race. This topic is not race related though so let's keeep that out of this discussion.

I am sorry I brought this up now but the fact remains, Lewis being a British black role model is a very positive thing. I refuse to retract the statement that lewis being a young black English driver is nothing but a positive thing for both the sport and the UK as a whole.

This isn't so far from the massive support lewis has brought in from young British fans, young girls fancying Lewis or even people just wanting to see a black man doing well in a sport traditionally seen as "white".

Not sure about the 'black man' reference because the only reference I am exposed to via this forum is because he is British, which imo is a farce. I'm American but have alway's supported driver's because of their ABILITY and not because of where they are from.[/quote]

I think its different over here to be honest. The fact we have had so many good drivers/teams over the years, most people support british in all sports, the only other thing really is the ferrari lovers.I spose in the states there hasn't been the interest in f1 to have many teams and drivers.

Surely when it comes to the olympics you support american athletes and cheer them on ?.I know after going to the British GP that the atmosphere to cheer the brits on is fantastic and you just can't help getting into the spirit of things, same with Alonso-Spain,Ferrari-Italy etc etc.

Almost all popular British sports are played internationally, some there's plenty of opportunity to support your country. Aside from the Olympics, when does that happen in America? Even when the Baseball World Cup was on the other month, America sent out a completely amateur team.
