Ater seeing the marvellous rookie season from Lewis Hamilton, could a team come in and be successful like Lewis. It's not really about money because Toyota spents more money then another team including Mclaren,Ferrari and Toyota engines are not rubbish either. suppose Ford came in supplied Lotus with there engines. Had the spending power like Ferrari, could there win in there first season?

Toyota £750 million per year
Ferrari £550 million per year
Honda £450 million per year
BMW £450 million Per year
McLaren £350 million per year
Renault £400 million per year

There's nothing stopping a new team coming in a being successful, it's just very unlikely. Many teams from the past have proved that it's very easy to fail, the best examples I can think of being Andrea Moda and Lola.

A successful team needs to be efficient in every single department, and a lot of new teams struggle to produce competitive cars, especially on the budgets they enter with. I don't think Toyota were massively slow on their first season in F1, but at the same time they weren't massively quick either.

Next year, who's to say Pro-Drive won't change this. They're likely to be using McLaren parts, and they've been successful in other racing series, so its not like they have a lack of experience.

Just remember though, based on the last few years, McLaren are due to field an uncompetitive car next season. :P

This as history has shown could turnout to be very true but I never count McLaren out  .

Take it you're talking about Mastercard Lola and not the Lola cars that were build for Larrousse. :P

Chip Ganassi won his first outing at the hands of Michael Andretti, in Surfer's Paradise. This was the first race of 94. IDK if Ganassi won the title that year though.

thing is madbrad, in america the team use off-the-shelf chassis and engines. F1 is different in that teams have been expected to design and build their own cars (this has been the case since the mid 70s), this makes winning immediately VERY unlikely as the team needs to build on the experience of their engineers and designers toyota did ok in their first season as they had the money to spend out on getting experienced highly respected guys before the team took to the task of designing their first car (harvey Postlethwaite among them i think), and if i remember, the car that made it to the track was NOT their first, as they spent a year testing, getting experience for the whole race team and building their knowledge before going grand prix racing with their second car..

however, with the costomer car rule coming in, and Prodrive being able to buy a 2008 McLaren, and toro rosso and super aguri probably buying their parent teams chassis and engines too, there is the possibility of a team winnig straight away, but its still unlikely as these teams cannot afford top line experienced drivers, engineers or mechanics to take a standard chassis, and prefect the setup to be quick at every race..

Toro Rosso is proof of this, they have out performed their parent Red Bull only a couple of times, but even then you have to take into account that they are using a different engine, so the weight distribution, suspension and gearbox all make a difference, but they have been unable to do it consistently. Super Aguri, although they have out-performed the Honda squad more times, cannot be compared as they are using last years race winning chassis, with developments, while Honda are using a very problematic chassis.

I think the last F1 team to win on their debut was Wolf with Scheckter in 1977 at Argentina.

Its possible, nothing is impossible its just unlikely cars need to be finly tuned and all aspects of the cars and other areas need perfecting. Ferrari pitstops are faster than other teams most of the time, specially the newer teams because they perfect it stuff like that is always a problem.

Toyota are a terrible team, they have a huge budget, great drivers, yet the team seams to be getting slower.
I mean look at them, they're being beat by Red Bull

i think the figures are correct, but its dollars, not pounds, so divide it by two, then its about right...

toyota $750 Million ... roughly £ 375million... etc..
