"My life would be much more easier had I been a f1-driver in the 70’s with the guys. I was definitely born in the wrong era." - Kimi Räikkönen

Yeh James Hunt is his Hero i reckon or he has alot of respect for him.

Since he entered a snow mobile race before the 07 season under the name "James Hunt" to keep his identity hidden.

But the fact is he is the POLAR opposite of James Hunt.

Not quite I'd say. KR is almost as wild as JH - his demeanor though is quite different, yes.

As wild kinda but hes not nearly as outgoing and friendly

Not outgoing no, but not friendly?

James Hunt was a freindly guy...unless you were a Marshall and he just crashed.

Kimi isn't really a friendly guy

I'll bet people who know him well wouldn't say that but he's probably quite difficult to get to know, hmmm I suppose it depends on how you define fiendly.

Getting Giles Villeneuve into F1.

Hunt discovered the brilliant Gilles Villeneuve, whom he met after being soundly beaten by him in a Formula Atlantic race in 1976. Hunt then arranged for the young Canadian to make his Grand Prix debut with McLaren in 1977. Villeneuve came to rely on Hunt for advice and support during his career and Hunt was particularly upset after Villeneuve's death in 1982

Top flight sport is a different kettle of fish these days, are there any drivers on the grid who've taken someone under their wing like that? Possibly Schumacher with Massa in some way. But I can't say whether or not Kimi would've done something like that back then.

The only similarity I see between Raikkonen and Hunt is their non conformist attitudes. Hunt was far more outspoken and charismatic than Kimi is, something which is probably owing to Kimi's shyness. Maybe when he's had a drink, or when he's in private, he morphs into a Hunt like character, but infront of the press, the image I see isn't that similar.

Falling off a boat drunk, now that's something I could see James Hunt doing. Urinating in the pit lane is probably something I could see Kimi doing. Kimi commentating? Probably not.

It's not like Kimi would be allowed to do that nowadays.

No, these days he has to go some place else to take a sh!t and then he has the opportunity to talk about it afterwards.

If Kimi was competing back in the 70's he'd probably be more open infront of the media because it was less of a "hound" back then as it is today.

Hunt used to ask for cigarettes or have a beer when he was being interviewed after he won a race, now if that happened today he'd probably be either thrown out of the press conference or have his win taken away.

Nah i think Kimi would be the same as he is now with the media, he's just a shy private person.

I just struggle to imagine him being that chatty in front of any cameras, especially if the "painfully shy" tag is accurate. There was a massive media frenzy surrounding James Hunt, particularly during the period of his marriage breakdown, and while I grant that it's not even remotely in the same league as todays media coverage, I don't think James Hunt would shy away.

Asking for cigarettes and a beer I can imagine Kimi doing, but being interviewed seems a problem for him. I suppose they have some similarities but I think they differ quite substantially in some key ways to.

How did you change your name?! Unless I'm talking to a forum member who has no idea who I am and shares Longbow's name :scratchchin:

Kimi is a badass.

I think had he raced in the 70s, he would've been best friends with Hunt. Ya they have different personalities, but Hunt and Ronnie Peterson were close friends and they were completely different.

If James Hunt and Ronnie Peterson morphed into one driver, its name would be Kimi Raikkonen.
