I was just thinking, do drivers get prize money. I know that the team pays them and have been watching all the news about Kimi and his 50+ million contract and Lewis' 110 million 5yr contract. But what is the purse for example this Suzuka race.

Seb would have received???
Jarno would have received for 2nd??
Lewis would have received for 3rd??


I googled it but couldn't find anything useful. Is the only prize money for the team with BE divying it out?

I believe all the winnings go to the team. As part of the contract I think most drivers have a money per point bonus (I believe some of the other team employees also have the same)

IIRC I read years ago that some team use it to offset lower wages for workers. At the time I believe Minardi paid the most per point out of all the teams.

My girlfriend came in at the end of the race and was watching the podium. She said how much do they get for winning. I blurted out "nothing.. a trophy and champagne." I then went on to say they get paid a salary and told her how much Lewis made.. She said "Damn, I guess they don't need anything do they.."

I would imagine that for a guy on a lathe in the factory, getting an extra £20 a point would be nice boost for the end of the month wage.

I don't think that there is a point bonus but I'm almost certain there is a Championship bonus.

I would guess a lot of drivers are on a points bonues to be honest.The drivers at the likes of McLaren and Ferrari perhaps not,but others i would guess are.
