FIA presidential candidate Ari Vatanen has welcomed declarations of support for his bid from the Ukranian Automobile Federation (FAU) and Middle Eastern bodies.

FAU president Yevhen Chervonenko has written to fellow organisations in eastern Europe and the former USSR to urge them to back Vatanen in his contest with Jean Todt.

"Establishment of the effective connection between auto sport and mobility, modern technologies transferring to millions of motorists, the support of clubs, efficient and democratic Federation administration, each club's participation in the decisions of FIA - this is the way we see the FIA's future, our clubs' future, the future of motoring," said the letter.

"This way is offered by Ari Vatanen. That is why I encourage you to support Ari Vatanen for the position FIA President, to make a step forward together, to the future."

Vatanen said Chervonenko's actions showed his campaign had a broad range of support.

"This latest act of support not only adds even more energy to our powerful momentum but underlines the widespread desire for a new direction across both the larger and smaller member clubs of the FIA" he said.

"It is particularly significant as the smaller clubs, given the structure of the FIA, form the foundation of the FIA family. They have their own particular issues they have to deal with and I feel that their interests should be protected in a very careful way."

Vatanen is currently a conference of Arab motoring organisations in Jordan, which is being hosted by HRH Prince Feisal al Hussein, Vatanen's nominated Vice-President (Sport) for the Middle East.

Mishaal Al Sudairy, Chairman of the Saudi Arabia Motor Federation, said Prince Feisal's role in the Vatanen campaign had boosted its standing in the Middle East.

"HRH Prince Feisal's support of Ari is a decisive factor to a majority of the Arab clubs supporting his candidature at the election," he said. "Ari is campaigning on a clear message for change within the FIA and HRH Prince Feisal has a track record of delivering on his promises."

Vatanen is quietly gathering support, but the FIA's antics and voting mechanisms mean the toad is the strong favourite.

Damn that slimy toad!!
#159462
The "toad" will win.

If this will be advantages or detrimental to the sport we will have to wait and see, though the fact that he is the preferred choice for both Bernie E and Sir Oswald Mosley doesn't instil the greatest confidence.

He will be poo poo!

Yeah remember how Mosley won the vote of confidence (or whatever the hell it was called)? Its great to see the Vat getting support, but the FIA is so corrupt I doubt he'll win. And Todt will fit right in.

Unfortunately "he will be poo poo!" will not really be a persuasive argument.

This is true. But unfortunately any sort of reasoned arguement as to who should succeed the dictator is futile. Reasoned arguements are not in vogue where the likes of Mosely preside, as was evidenced when he was caught with his pants down. So I reckon "he will be poo poo" does as well as anything :)

Sadly, I will have to agree with the basic premise of the argument, and I fear that it will impact mainly on the favourable chances of "the toad" positively.
I for one would like to see at least one season where the politics of sport over weigh the politics of the money.

F1 badly needs Vatanen to win the presidency, and if he can get a secret ballet approved then I think there is more chance. F1 seems to be so "duck up" from the top with Max and Bernie running things, having a new and seemingly decent guy at the top would IMO transform the leadership of the sport.

F1 needs change and if the frog gets in we'll be stuck in a rut for a further xxxx years. All I say is to all those with a vote grow some balls and vote for change.

I'm all for :bellydance: and other performing arts, but why secret?

Secret to protect the people who would like to vote Vatanen against Mosley/Bernie/Todt's revenge.

From Mosley's letter 'Any thought that, after the election, everyone in motorsport can unite and work together can now be forgotten,'

best of Mosley's neutral statements, showing how he's supporting a civilised campaign himself:
'The simple fact is that Vatanen will lose the election and lose badly, not least because he chose to denigrate the FIA and those currently in office rather than run a constructive and civilised campaign.'

I'm a bit slow on Saturday mornings, just recovering and getting ready to watch qualifying. But now when you point it out word by word it's slowly processing in my head.
