Santander announced two weeks ago to continue sponsorship of McLaren during 2010. On 30, September Alonso gets driver market moving by signing a Santander sponsored three year Ferrari contract. With Kimi being released from last year of Ferrari contract everyone assumes he's going back to McLaren. What if the drivers market bypasses McLaren and they are unable to sign Kimi. I'm starting to question the motives behind Santanders dual sponsorship of McLaren and Ferrari, we know where their loyalty lies.

they are sticking with McLaren because since Lewis Hamiltons rise to fame their image has increased ten fold in the UK. It would be stupid to lose that in a new market.

Marlboro pay the driver's wages at Ferrari. Marlboro sell stakes in the sponsorship of the Ferrari team to other sponsors in the same way a real estate agent might buy property and then sell it to developers. I would imagine that with Santander taking on a large portion of Ferrari's sponsorship that perhaps they also inherit responsibility for driver's wages to an extent. This would explain how it is contractually possible for Kimi to leave with a year left on his contract. His wage will still be technically payed by Ferrari, via their main sponsor, who also sponsor McLaren. If this is the case, Kimi probably has no choice but to go to McLaren or leave the sport for a year.

Now back on topic, pork belly or lamb shoulder?

I'm not talking about Santanders financial bottom line. What i'm saying, is Santander helping Ferrari by letting the drivers market bypass McLaren and they can't sign Kimi or he is already contracted to WRC.

so you think Santander is helping Ferrari out by forcing Kimi onto McLaren? thats not such a bad way to screw McLaren over if thats the case :hehe:

Something about the Santander dual sponsorship smells, making Kimi unavailable to be signed by McLaren. In the meantime drivers like Rubens and Nico will already be signed by new teams. If McLaren can't sign Kimi, who will they team with Lewis.

hmmm i was under the impression Santander are paying off Kimis contract but will have him drive at McLaren so atleast they get some money out of him in a team they sponsor.

Its not a def sign off yet but i think in the end he will still do it just to stay in F1.

Raikkonen made his plans clear: "I'm not going to go to a small team, my only aim is to have a chance with a team that can fight for the world championship. Otherwise there is no point of staying in F1."
