Before people continue screaming shrilly about Jenson's comments, please bear in mind that after the Turkish GP, many people were complaining that the season had been ruined by the dominance of Brawn GP in general and Jensonn in particular.

The man has done fantastically well. After struggling in mediocre cars (exceptions being the 2004 BAR and the 2006 Honda) for most of his career, he now has more race wins, more podium finishes and more points finishes than any other driver this season. This is a driver that took more than 100 races to secure his first win, and more than 75 races to take his first podium.

I'd like to interpret Jenson's "lack of aggression" as something approaching a modicum of common sense, and my translation of this latest comment is him stating "I'm not going to do anything stupid, if it looks like I'll ruin my world title chances". But, an F1 driver is by nature an aggressive person. You don't reach the pinnacle of motorsport, and stay there for a decade, without that aggressive attitude.

I like Button. He's confident and cocksure in himself and his ability to drive and comfortable with his own arrogance, something that you can't say about a lot of F1 drivers. When interviewers ask him who the best driver in the world was/is, his answer is simply "Me. I am the best". No false modesty, no placating, just confidence. And, perhaps, a disingenuous sense of self modesty.

Mis-placed aggression would be the worst thing Button could do. Crashing out at Suzuka, Interlagos or Abu Dhabi due to unnecessary recklessness would be staggeringly silly.

Some people are giving too much meaning to this interview.

I highly doubt Jenson will take it easy. He can't; Rubens is breathing down his neck in the championship. The written word cannot carry the body language unless the writer expresses it. Jenson is as passionate as anyone else in the grid, just see how happy he is when he wins, and how sad he looks when he doesn't have a good day.
