hi all, i'm trying to recall a race in which Mika Hakkinen crashed out of when leading. i'm pretty sure it was before he had won a GP and it was his mistake.

the accident was very similar to the one in San Marino 1999 where he caught the white line which spun him off into the wall.

the one i'm thinking of, he went wide in the last corner and whilst going along the grass bounced into the wall. i remember the commentary being exciting before this as it would have been he first GP win

can anyone help?

Mmika's first victory was the last race of 97. As far as I can gather, he did not crash while leading during 97.
Monza 99 was the notable spin off while leading, where he sat and supposedly cried on the grass outside of the guard rail. Of course, he had a title and lots of wins prior to that. He was for sure disappointed, but all the driver wip the sweat off their faces with their balaclavas, so who's to say he was crying?
He also spun off while leading earlier in the year at Imola.

And whilst Wurz was talking to Coulthard and Button's girlfriend err I mean Louise Goodman, accidents tended to happen a lot that season when Wurz was being interviewed.
