Just caught a little of this on BBC news.

Ecclestone said he believed it correct that Renault were given a two-year suspended ban, but that the punishment for Briatore went too far.

Cant help wondering what he would have preferred, certainly not the degree of punishent that McLaren have in the past recieved. The fact that the vast majority of comments have been that if anything the punishment was to lenient makes me wonder if this is just a "soundbite" to keep Ecclestones name in the papers, its been all about Mosley recently.

Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone says he thinks Flavio Briatore's indefinite ban for race-fixing is too severe and urges the former Renault boss to appeal against it.

That of course is true, but it'll be difficult to prove that the Piquet's tried to blackmail him with the fact that the allegations are true and the ensuing "crashgate" scandal + plus the fact that Renault decided to drop their legal case against the Piquets!

Far too small an offer given that Renault are supposibly staying put and the facilities at Enstone.
