Bernie Ecclestone has given Todt his support, as has the promoters of WTCC, WRC and FIA GT.

We wouldn't be on here, talking about this sport if it wasn't for the likes of Max and Bernie.

Especially Bernie. What a fricking legend.

I can think of alternative descriptors but it wouldnt be a good idea for me to say them on here.

how does Bernard feed F1?

he just takes takes takes

In many ways my friend, in many ways.

It was Bernie who took those initial risks, he has every right to take as much profit as he can out of what he significantly contributed to.

not at the expense of the fans, the teams and the venues he doesn't

Ah but you realise this is the thing that most F1 fans overlook.

Back in the early 70s when Bernie became head of FOCA he asked the teams if they wanted to gamble on building the sport with him.

The other teams said no - 1. Because they wanted to concentrate solely on their team operations and 2. Because they felt that if Ecclestone was distracted then they could gain an advantage over Brabham

Basically, Bernie predicted that TV rights would pay up over time, and he was right - so he set it all up himself.

In the early days many GP promoters could not afford the prize money, many times Bernie had to cover the costs himself.

You see many people will point the finger at Bernie and bad mouth him, but ask yourself this: Would F1 have such amazing coverage today? Would there really be such an environment whereby Sponsors and Automobile manufacturers alike would want to advertise and compete? The short answer is no.

Although he does take a huge share of F1 revenues he has taken enough risks. Yes, many of his tactics have been underhanded and yes some of them are not fan-friendly.
But at end of the day the product, the show, the sport has much to thank him for.

Don't be confused he didn't do it as some grand saint like Gesture.

He saw an opportunity where he could make a lot of money.

Granted the TV coverage is very good.

But the money the teams get, and the cost the venue's have to put up, and the cost of the tickets as a result of the that is not good.

He takes far too much for himself and CVC

Yeah, but in the end it could well have backfired on him. The other teams didn't exactly help.

And in the battle against the governing body to get proper money for the teams, among other things, he was the leading man with Mosley as the wingman.

So what if he takes a large share? Besides, there is nothing anyone can do.

Next year the CVC and Bernie get the F1 rights for 100 years Mu ha ha ha !

I don't wanna go on and on, because i'll just go on a bit rant about why Bernie and Max did alot of good for the sport and blah blah.

No no i accept you did this for your dissertation and understand it better than me,

But i think FOTA is where the money needs to come into not some big faceless corporation who care more about profits than the fans.

Thats not to say the teams don't care about making money but they want to please the fans to keep the sponsors happy.
#157309
Well replace did with doing.

It would be crazy to give the likes of FOTA the money. F1 needs an independent commercial rights holder.

Yes Sanction fees among other things have sky rocketed in recent years, but alot of that is due to F1's appeal.

To keep the money coming in, to fund the teams, keep sponsors happy etc etc, F1 has had to globalise and it has just had to go in this direction.

Granted Ecclestone and the CVC Investments take alot of money, but when you look at the countless things they need to provide for you can see why.

I'd have a separate commercial rights holder but the company would have to be JUST the F1 Commercial rights holder.

Not owned by a big corporation that don't really give a crap about anything other than profits

At the end of the day though, F1 has become a business. The CVC's willingness to invest in the first place was a sign that they believed F1 was in good health and can have a bright future.
