If I was at Ferrari, I would be failing to see how his involvement in any kind of scandal has anything to do with his ability to drive a car fast and consistently. He is probably the best in F1 at doing this, therefore, I would want him to drive for my team.

I think the fact that he is so good at developing a car is another reason why they're interested. From what I've read, Kimi while not bad, isnt the greatest at developing a car.

I think Kimi is good enough when it comes to testing and getting telementry data because he will get the most out of the car lap after lap but he's not good in a problem solving situation because he doesn't communicate well.

It appears that no team in F1 is clean. The environment has fostered bending the rules. I am not say all teams cheat, but certainly bend and stretch the rules. Until the environment changes it will keep perpetuating itself.

However, if I were Ferrari, I would never want Alonso upset with team or management because coincident or not team principles will fall. Hefty fines will be levied. And madness will ensue.

He brought down Ron Dennis ultimately by fines and FIA scrutiny. He brought down Flavio ultimately by making pressure for him fix a race for results. But as the thread contends we do not know for certain if he knew. Its all a coincident.

I doubt Alonso was the reason for the Singapore fix. There was a much larger issue at hand, with Renault considering pulling out of Formula One at that time due to a lack of wins.

Would that pressure have been as strong if they didn't have a double world champ in Alonso in the car?

Yes. It's easier to find a high-quality driver than to keep a team in the sport when the major source of funding for that team is considering getting out. It was fortunate for them that they had a double world champion in the car to make the most of the plan, however ;)

I would have though Alonso's presence would have given Briatore no excuses. If he had two mediocre drivers, he would be able to attribute the blame to them.

And who is responsible for hiring the drivers?? in the end the fault would have gravitated right back to Briatore.

 The pressure was there regardless of having Alonso or not.... i'm sure its still there.

Also, Alonso came out "clean" and as an ally to the FIA during the spy issue, so I bet they will take that into consideration and give him some slack. It wouldnt be far fetched that he didnt know about it at the moment or during the race (although i would find it hard to believe that he's not known about this for a whole yr). Again, he's used the same kind of weird aggressive strategies several times; but i think Flavio and Renault were much more in need for that win than Alonso was...

If the drivers didn't want to come, he couldn't do much about it.

And yes, Briatore emits a Field of Blame, if you have a history of making bad decisions, people are always going to be sceptical of you. I guess he saw that as good reason to continue his dirty dealings.

You're right, we don't know what Alonso knows about Crash-Gate and when he knew it so how can we suspect him of wrongdoing. But you can classify him as a "Person of interest" in this race fixing episode. That being said, as a McLaren and Brawn GP fan I am delighted by this Alonso/Ferrari match made in hell. :D

FA seems to be a scandal magnet - I don't know whether or not Ferrari would do themselves a disservice by hiring him...

They deserve one another.
