Exactly. If he knew what had happened would he, with a tv camera pointing at him, say within earshot anything about the safety car? Compare that to Briatore's succinct and muffled response, or Piquet's look of embarassment as the team shake hands on the pit wall.

Given that it's claimed (e.g. Irvine) that many things like this have happened in the past, then Alonso could easily have been fairly confident about talking about it, even in public. It's very easy to find lots of examples where people talked confidently about things in public where it later turned out that they shouldn't have.

There are, but I get the feeling Alonso is shrewder that that.

"During the race, Renault F1 driver Nelson Piquet, Jr. crashed on Lap 14, which at the time he attributed as a simple mistake. At the time, his Renault team mate Fernando Alonso was the only driver to have pitted for fuel, and he later went on to win the race."

"He said that the team chose a two-stop strategy with a short initial stint as opposed to a one-stop strategy, considering the difficulties of overtaking on the track and possibility of brake problems."

Whether Alonso knew about Piquet's situation or not, he sure had a good alibi minus his apparent poker face behaviour stated in this thread.

If Fernando is implicated here will this affect his move to Ferrari? will they say sorry mate youre tarnished goods....

I think it may because scandal seem's to follow him around like a second shadow. I believe that no one can honestly say he was NOT privy to the plot.

I was honest with my opinion Tex. I still haven't seen any conclusive evidence to suggest he was part of the plot.

I saw a video of Alonso in the room they sit in before going out to the podium and he says to flav "it was the safety car, the safety car" and flav nods

If Alonso knew then there's no WAY he would be so open about it.

He may of had suspicions after it happened but he can't really go to the team and say "did you do this?" And you can't really punish him for something he didn't know about even though it benefited him.

I was speaking in general terms and was not directing my reply towards you. Alonso could be guilt free and if he is great.

But your statement did suggest that those who don't believe Alonso was involved are, in your opinion, being dishonest. I just wanted to point out that, in my case at least, that's not true. I'm yet to be convinced of his guilt. :)

Trouble seems to follow a certain Fernando Alonso. Spy-gate in 2007, and now Crash-gate. But during spy-gate Alonso came out clean, and I expect the story to be the same here. Alonso being double world champion and the man who draws hundreds of thousands of spanish fans towards F1, I'm sure there will be amount of overlooking.

Besides, innocent until proven guilty. I doubt they have anything against Alonso, so all Alonso has to do, is claim he knew nothing, even if he did.

He's reasonably intelligent , of course he knew. If not before then certainly afterwards.

Since when was Alonso clean in the 2007 spying scandal? He was one several people steeped from head to toe in Ferrari data. Even if Alonso were clean in 2007, I would still find it tough to believe he knew nothing about Renault's plans to fix the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. At the end of the day, though, there is no evidence against him, so he's a free man.

FA seems to be a scandal magnet - I don't know whether or not Ferrari would do themselves a disservice by hiring him...
