Today was my 1st day of class at the police academy and it was great!!!!! I met a bunch of current recruit's and made alot of new friend's. We get measured for our uniform's tomorrow and will recieve them by the end of the week and then I will post some pic's okydoky?

My specialty is cavity search's !

I was made the lead cadet of my class today ! I will be the one who lead's/command's the other cadet's when a superior officer enter's the classroom after the "attention" command is called out by the instructor.

Do you mean you have to make everyone stand up and salute?

Thank you Anna now to your question. When a superior enter's the classroom, beit a police officer or another instructor (all the instructor's are actual police officer's) they will callout "attention" and at that point the class stand's at attention. Then upon the instructor's command he will call upon me to take control of the cadet's leading them back into an "at ease" formation.

1. The first command I give the class is a "ready" command in which we all lay one arm ontop of the other directly infront of us at eye level.

2. I then instruct the class to take their seat's with the command "seats" while we are still holding our arm's together.

3. I then instruct the class to "rest" which mean's we all simultaneously clap and callout our class number.

4. I then instruct the class to "rest" which mean's adjusting our seating.

It's all very military in a sense but the basis is to get the class working together as an entity and not individually.

Well when your called to attention your seat it pushed back so it simply mean's pulling it back into a ready position at our desk's.

Well I started walking and jogging yesterday in preparation for PT (physical training) at the police academy. Yesterday I had Max my dog with me so I only jogged a 1/4 mile before having to stop and wait on him, he has to piss on every post, mailbox or fire hydrant he see's . I also dropped in the street and did a quick 20 pushup's, I have not done any kind of serious physical training in 15yr's so I thought that was a positive start. This morning I jogged a whole 1/2 mile which I was very happy with since we start our PT evaluation's next Monday.

To summarize I'm not as bad as I thought I would be but I still have along way to go. Next week the class as a whole will elect a Captain, Sargent and Lieutenant for our class so I'm hoping I get elected for either one as it is a very motivating aspect for myself personaly. Most of all the other cadet's are coming to me with question's and idea's and introducing themselves to me which possibly mean's I'm having a positive impact upon my fellow cadet's.

I am now the class Capt so basically I'm second in command of my class behind the instructor. I'm gonna whip those cadet's into shape if they like it or not . I'm currently waiting on replies from the Precinct 5 Constables Dept and the Fort Bend County Sheriffs Dept about becoming a reserve officer. There is nothing better than on the job training and I will sport a full uniform aswell as being able to 'open carry' my firearm. I will only be required to perform 16hr's of duty each month and will be recognized by the state as a 'commisioned' peace officer. This experience will look fantastic on my application's when I gaduate.

My main goal is to get on with the DPS and become a state trooper and possibly become a Texas Ranger someday.

I contacted a local Catholic school last week which happens to be the best sixth form school in my area, asking if I could do some classroom observation ready for my PGCE application. I went for a visit today to organise things and was overwhelmed by the help they're offering.

They've suggest that I consider the Graduate Training Programme (GTP), meaning that I'd complete teacher training while working as an unqualified teacher at their school, so I wouldn't have to go back to university and I'd be paid. They're also suggesting that if I did this there may be a job waiting for me at the end, as one of their Physics teachers is retiring. They're going to help me with my PGCE application and personal statement, if I choose to go down that route. They've given me application forms to become a paid exam invigilator and a cover assistant. I'm allowed to go in whenever I want, for as long as I want to, observing and helping in lessons.

I only went to arrange some calssroom observation I figured I'd be out in 10 minutes but 2 hours later I left with my head spinning.

I've never been in a school like that in my life. They were the most unbelievebly helpful, enthusiastic and complementary people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. The other school I visted (my old secondary school) was very helpul to but at this school they're going out of their way for me, in every way possible. I'm a little shell shocked by it all.

Physics teachers are a dying breed. Well a dead breed at my school, there weren't any good ones at all. I'm not surprised they're bending over backwards to help.

How long is a GTP?
