German car manufacturer BMW says it has agreed to sell its Formula 1 team to Swiss-based Qadbak Investments.
BMW has been looking for a buyer for the team since it announced in July that it was pulling out of the sport at the end of the current season.
BMW has not revealed the financial details of the deal.
Earlier on Tuesday, F1's governing body gave BMW Sauber "14th place" on the grid next year, meaning they are first reserves to fill any vacancy.
More to follow.

Good that a buyer has been found. But maybe it is a case of too little too late?

Will the teams allow for a 14th team?

Moreover do the various F1 pitlanes have the capacity for such an expansion, they were already struggling to accomodate the proposed 13.

Unless, as I've mentioned before, the likes of Toyota or Renault won't be with us in 2010.

...Although Beemer are confident that the team will feature in 2010.

BMW Sauber has said it fully expects to be on the Formula 1 grid in Melbourne next year after finding a buyer for the team on Tuesday.

After missing out on the 13th 2010 slot to Lotus, BMW Sauber was offered an extra 14th team place by the FIA if it was successful in securing funding for its future.

After announcing that Swiss foundation Qadbak Investments Limited is to buy the team, BMW Sauber issued a statement confirming that it now expects the FIA to guarantee its place on the grid.

"We are pleased to confirm that the FIA has indicated that we may have a place in the 2010 Formula One World Championship," said a BMW statement.

"The team expects to line up on the grid for the first race of the 2010 season."

I suppose FOTA will find a way, like they promised.

What name are they going to run under though? Sauber?

I don't think there will be more than 13 - they are the first reserve drivers, uh, team

Glad they succeeded in finding a buyer

Agreed, 28 cars would be great. My biggest fear is that they will do something stupid like institute a 20 car grid again and knock out 8 cars in qualifying, but I trust the FIA will find a better approach.

I believe it's too little too late for BMW Sauber. BMW should have registered their team for the 2010 championship then a buyer would have been found easier.

Any more than a 26 car grid would be unlikely as most F1 facilities don't support that amount of cars.

That would work out perfectly for Bernie ;)

A 28 car grid sounds quite appealing. I would love to see Sauber's comeback under their original name and with the classy black livery from the 1993/1994 seasons. :)
