Apparently they want this to basically be a Malaysian F1 team, to be based in Malaysia and to attract Maylaysia team members and fans etc.

:(:(:( Thatn sucks.

What's wrong with Norfolk? :hehe:

Too many canal boats ;)

It's good to have a traditional racing name back on the grid, but I would have still preferred to have Prodrive/Aston Martin.

me too, i would seriously consider supporting lotus if renault went, but seeing as its a fake name, nah!

at least aston martin wouldve been them!

EDT, is lotus malaysian owned? didnt know that, if it is, i guess it is lotus then, technically

Forgive my ignorance but why are they allowed to use the Lotus name if they have nothing to do with the real Lotus?

EDIT: Ignore me, I looked it up. 1994 was way before I got interested in motorsport

Well, Proton, who ownes Lotus, is Malaysian owned, isn't it? So... yeah. But the new team is apparently a joint effort between the government and Malaysian entrepreuners (sooooo didn't spell that right XD), and that article linked earlier on said talks were still in process about exactly how far Lotus Cars would be involved.

Apparently, according to a friend who works at Lotus, the cars will be Proton bits, but will be named as Lotus. Dunno how true that will be!

being from suffolk.. do i need to answer?

Er, yes please!

Easy, the Lotus car company and its rights are owned by Proton - which is the Malaysian national automobile manufacturer.
So by that reckoning a Government-backed team could easily use the name.

Edit: God damn edits

Aw, c'mon - you could have been more original than that! There are, in fact, very few inbred people in Norfolk. That I know of :hehe:
*counts fingers and toes* - I'm birth-defect free!

so will it really be Lotus?

Seems like it'll be more Proton than Lotus :(.
